Today, we highlight our receptionist Karen.

💫Karen has loved animals and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since she was a kid. While things didn’t quite go as planned, her love for animals and caring for their well-being kept her going, leading her to spend over 11 years as a veterinary receptionist! Many of you have already been greeted by her over the phone or in person at the front desk, where she handles everything from scheduling and answering calls to emails, check-ins, and check-outs—always with a friendly smile!

Today, we highlight our LVT Alyssa.

Growing up, Alyssa wanted to become a veterinarian. Like many others, she had never heard of a licensed veterinary technician and the importance of them in veterinary medicine. The responsibilities of being an LVT brings Alyssa so much joy and fulfillment! Though her career aspirations changed, her love of animals and their well-being has never wavered!

Dr. Dixon's love of animals and their happiness started at a very young age. Veterinary medicine is her passion and she is never happier than when she is caring for her patients! Little Dr. Dixon even included her first cherished cat in her baby pictures!

🚨 AIR QUALITY ALERT🚨

Michigan is currently under a statewide Air Quality Alert due to the Canadian wildfires. The air quality is expected to be at Unhealthy levels today and tomorrow and many of us are feeling the effects.

THIS AFFECTS YOUR PETS TOO! 🐾

💙Pets at higher risk include:
•Senior pets
•Puppies and kittens
•Flat-faced breeds (Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs, etc.)
•All Birds
•Pets with asthma, collapsing trachea, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions)

️🏠Please take precautions by:
•Keeping pets indoors as much as possible
•Keep windows closed and run A/C if possible
•Limiting outdoor time to quick potty breaks only
•Providing plenty of fresh water
•Wiping paws and coats with a damp towel after being outside to remove any smoke particles

Seek veterinary care immediately if your pet is struggling to breathe, collapses, has blue or gray gums, if your cat is open mouth breathing.

Are we the only ones whose flabbers are gasted by the 10 day forcast?! 🥵💥☀️🌡

Remember that dogs and cats are much more sensitive to heat and more susceptible to heat-related illness than people realize.

If you are heading outside with your pet, remember these 5 helpful tips:
- Bring fresh water wherever you go 💦🧊
- Stick to shaded areas whenever possible 🌳🌳🌳
- Keep walks short and avoid strenuous exercise 🐩 (Walking in the morning or the evening when the temperature is cooler is best 🌥)
- Check pavement temperatures before walks—it may be too hot for paws 🐾 (If it is too hot for your feet 👣 it is too hot for them!)
- Make sure pets have access to cool indoor spaces 🏡🪭

Watch for warning signs such as:
- excessive panting 🥵
- drooling 🫠
- weakness 🫩
- vomiting 🤮
- difficulty breathing 😱
- bright red or blue gum or tongue color 💙❤️

If you suspect your pet is overheating, seek veterinary care immediately.

The safest place for most pets on these extremely hot days are indoors 🏠 with air conditioning 💨 or a fan 🪭 and plenty of fresh water 💧
