We're Canine Craze Performance Center and we've been a dog training and dog day school facility here in Urbandale, IA, since 2001. We believe in using positive reinforcement training and clicker training to help dogs learn. We're looking forward to growing our business to continue to serve the greater Des Moines area and partnering with Polk County's consumers to be the best dog training facility in the area. Halloween Safety Tip: Keep the Chocolate Away from Your Pup!

Those puppy-dog eyes can be hard to resist, but here's one treat your four-legged friend should NEVER get their paws on: CHOCOLATE!

Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are toxic to dogs. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are especially dangerous, but all types of chocolate can pose a risk.

Keep your Halloween festivities fun and safe with these simple tips:

🍬Keep candy bowls out of reach. Curious noses and sneaky paws can find treats in seconds!
🍬Secure trick-or-treat bags. Remind kids to store their candy somewhere your pup can't reach.
🍬Check the wrappers, too. Swallowed wrappers can cause problems, even if the candy is gone.
🍬Offer dog-friendly treats instead. Let your pup enjoy something made just for them!

What if your dog eats chocolate?

Don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary clinic right away. Be ready to share your dog's weight, the type of chocolate, and the estimated amount eaten. You can also contact an animal poison control service for guidance.

Keep an eye out for vomiting, restlessness, a rapid heartbeat, tremors, or seizures. These can be signs of chocolate toxicity.

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of welcoming the founders of Crisis Response Canines (CRC) and their amazing canine partners to share their experiences and the important work they do supporting individuals and communities during times of crisis.

A special thank-you to Shelley McLaren, Director of the Midwest Region for CRC, for helping coordinate this opportunity and bringing everyone together!

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

Bringing home a shelter dog is just the beginning of the journey.

Your new dog may be learning a whole new world—new people, new routines, new surroundings, and new expectations. Training after adoption can help build communication, confidence, and a strong relationship between you and your new best friend.

Remember: your new dog doesn't need to know everything on day one. Give them time, patience, and plenty of opportunities to learn.

Whether you're teaching everyday skills, working through challenges, or simply learning how to communicate with each other, training is an important part of helping your adopted dog settle in and thrive.

Adoption gives them a home. Training helps you build a life together. 🐾

Today, we’re celebrating the special bond between veterans and their pets—and the incredible ways dogs can bring connection, routine, confidence, and companionship into our lives.

At Canine Craze, we’re especially proud to be part of the Puppy Jake Foundation family. Our partnership allows us to support Puppy Jake’s mission of helping veterans through professionally trained service dogs, while continuing to provide training and resources for veterans and their pet dogs. 💙🐶

We believe training is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen the human-canine partnership. Clear communication, understanding, and teamwork help dogs and their people navigate life together with greater confidence.

Craze Trained Club members, join us for a fun, hands-on evening designed to sharpen the skills on the human end of the leash. Through a variety of team and individual games, we'll put your training mechanics to the test while laughing, learning, and discovering a few habits you didn't know you had.

We'll tackle skills like timing, reinforcement strategies, and setting clear criteria—all without your dog in the room. You'll practice observing, making decisions, communicating clearly, and delivering reinforcement in a fun, low-pressure setting.
No competition. No need to be an expert. Just come ready to play, learn, and have a great time with your fellow Craze Trained Club members.
