We offer daycare services for dogs and puppies, private and group classes, obedience training, and more. Saturdays and Sundays are By Appointment Only

We're Canine Craze Performance Center and we've been a dog training and dog day school facility here in Urbandale, IA, since 2001. We believe in using positive reinforcement training and clicker training to help dogs learn. We're looking forward to growing our business to continue to serve the greater Des Moines area and partnering with Polk County's consumers to be the best dog training facility

Today we’re celebrating someone who has made an incredible impact on Canine Craze, Puppy Jake Foundation, our clients, our dogs, and our team.

As a Senior Trainer at Canine Craze and an Apprentice Trainer at Puppy Jake Foundation, Mackenzie brings an extraordinary combination of knowledge, dedication, compassion, and heart to everything she does. She is deeply committed to helping dogs and their people succeed, and her passion for learning and growing as a trainer is evident in every interaction.

Whether she is teaching a class, coaching a client, supporting a foster with a service dog in training, or helping a fellow team member, Mackenzie consistently shows up with patience, professionalism, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Her impact reaches far beyond the dogs she trains. She helps shape the culture of our team and the community we continue to build. Simply put, Canine Craze would not be the same without her.

🐾 Did you know reinforcement isn’t just treats? 🐾

Dogs can be reinforced by:
✔ Food
✔ Toys
✔ Sniffing and exploring
✔ Attention
✔ Movement and play
✔ Access to things they want

That means reinforcement is happening all the time...whether we realize it or not.

For example, if a dog pulls on the leash and then reaches the tree they wanted to sniff, giving access to the tree just reinforced the pulling behavior.

This is why understanding what your dog values matters so much in training.

The good news? Once we understand reinforcement, we can begin using everyday life intentionally to build better habits, clearer communication, and thoughtful choices.

Training is happening all the time!

🐾🌷 Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there...including the dog moms! 🐾🌷

The ones who schedule their lives around potty breaks, training sessions, enrichment activities, vet appointments, and making sure their dog has the best life possible.

Being a dog mom is more than spoiling your dog. It’s showing up every day, learning alongside them, advocating for them, and loving them for exactly who they are.

Today we celebrate all of the women giving so much of themselves to the dogs they share life with.

🐾 How to Get Ready for Farmer’s Market Season 🐾

Farmer’s markets can be a great experience, but they’re not the right fit for every dog.

Before you go, start here:

1. Be honest about your dog
Busy environments mean crowds, food on the ground, other dogs, noise, and constant movement.
Ask yourself: Will my dog enjoy this, or just tolerate it?
Not every dog needs to go—and that’s okay.

2. Build the right skills first
A successful outing starts long before you arrive. Focus on:
✔ Impulse control around food, people, and dogs
✔ The ability to emotionally regulate in stimulating environments
✔ Loose leash walking and staying with you through distractions
✔ Engagement and check-ins in new places

If these skills aren’t there yet, start smaller and build up.

3. Practice good etiquette
When you do go:
✔ Give other dogs space, no on-leash greetings
✔ Advocate for your dog and respect others doing the same
✔ Keep your dog close and out of walkways
✔ Watch for signs your dog needs a break
✔ Remember, you’re responsible for your dog’s experience and impact on others

Farmer’s markets should be enjoyable for everyone, including your dog.

Today we’re celebrating something really special, Tabetha’s 14-year anniversary with Canine Craze.

For the past 14 years, Tabetha has been an incredible part of our team, bringing dedication, knowledge, compassion, and a love for dogs into everything she does.

From helping clients in classes, to supporting dogs and their people through training challenges, to competing in agility with her own dogs, she brings both experience and passion to the work every single day. Her understanding of canine behavior and training has helped shape not only countless dogs, but also the community we continue to build at Canine Craze.

We are incredibly grateful for the impact she has made over the years and the person she is both inside and outside of training.

Thank you, Tabetha, for 14 amazing years. We are lucky to have you as part of the Canine Craze family.
