I'm kind of impressed by my boy, Stone. He has picked up on something that I've never intentionally taught him. My boyfriend is watching the live storm coverage on WCIA. The sirens sounded on the TV (not for us, background sound). Stone went to the basement door and waited. We tried to convince him that we didn't need to go. But, he knows sirens mean basement. I finally had to go through the ritual of going down to the basement, sitting down, saying all clear and then going back up in order to calm him down. Just goes to show that we unintentionally train behaviors all the time.

Today, I had three clients and one cancellation. It was a gorgeous day. So, of course, we did some leash work today. I started off at Hessel park with Louis. We also brought Dakota with us and did some tandem training. Both puppies had a blast. We played in the splash pad, we met some kids, we went on the merry ground and got some really good leashwork in. Louis is definitely making progress. We still need to work on not wrestling on leash lol. Next I saw Sandor. Today we had another successful walk with only one panic attack. But, he worked through it and we were able to move on. His owners have done a great job with his anxiety. I also did leash work with Charlie today. Today we had a very successful walk with no reactivity at all. Weather permitting, we'll be attempting Hessel next week. I, of course, forgot to get pics of any of them. But, here's some older pics of them.

Today I had 3 clients. First was a returning client, Goose and Milo. They took several months off due to a family situation. Today we reevaluated to see where they're at now. We still have some reactivity and some manners work to do. I missed these boys! Next was a new client, Victoria. She's a sweet girl who's afraid of the world. It's going to take some time to teach her the world isn't so scary, but we'll get her there. I also saw Lenny and Lance today. We started off on a walk for some leash work. Thunder quickly changed our minds. Mother Nature was only bluffing, though. Oh well. So, we worked on some manners training and worked on some of their insecurities. I forgot to get picks of Lenny and Lance. That socks, they were fresh from the groomer and simply adorable!

Today I had 3 clients. First was Louis. Today we really challenged him! Dakota is his little girlfriend. So, we walked them together and asked him to ignore her. It was a little rocky at first (think WWE wrestling on leash lol). But, he finally got it, settled down and walked beautifully! Next was Charlie. Since the weather was so nice, we started his leash work today. He's not horrible, but does think he's a Husky (he's not, he's a Yorkie lol). By the end of the walk he understood what I was asking amd settled right now. My last client was Sandor. I really have to brag on this d9g and his owner. When they came to me a year and a half ago, this boy was a mess. He would panic 10 minutes into a walk, couldn't be left alone or he would panic so bad he would hurt himself. It's been a long road. But, his owners stuck with it and put the work in. Sandor can now be left home alone without anxiety. Today we had a successful 35 minute walk! He only had one panic episode but recovered in minutes, even with bikes, scooters, kids, barking dogs, big vehicles (all of his former triggers). I'm so very proud of the progress he's made!

I had 0 clients and 2 cancelations today. I do want to make sure everyone knows, though, that summer is hit or miss for leash work. If it's raining, we're not doing leash work. No one would enjoy that lol. If the heat index (feels like temp) is above 90, we don't do leash work. That's for the safety of the dog and humans. No one wants heat exhaustion. "But, Cori, I walk my dog every day to go potty. No matter what the weather is." A 10 minute potty walk is much different than a 45 minute leash skills walk. It's not worth risking anyone's health or safety. Most of the time, there are other skills we can work on inside, such as basic obedience that will transfer over to leash. I don't control the weather. If I did, it would be 75 year round lol.

Today I had 2 clients. First was little Cosmo. He's a very recent rescue with an unknown background. Today we started working on his scent marking. We also figured out what toys he likes. His owner didn't think he liked toys because he didn't show any interest at home. Turns out he likes crinkly toys and loves to play tug. I also saw Ivy today. We worked on her bad habit of jumping some more today. We also started working on getting her to settle down on command, and continued working on her self control. She's still just a puppy, so it takes time. I forgot to get pics, of course lol.

I had 1 client and 2 cancelations today. Today I saw Lenny and Lance. We took them into the backyard today to start working on an off leash recall in the yard. It's hot. They were hot. They just sniffed and laid down lol. Welp, at least I was able to explain to their owner how to do it. We also went inside and started working on a place and a stay command. These boys have come so far already, I'm eager to see more. Of course, I forgot to take pics lol.

As all of my clients know, I don't penalize people for needing to cancel or reschedule. But, if you do need to, please try to work with me to do another day or time that week. When someone cancels, that's money put of my "paycheck" each week. Lately I've been having more clients cancel than clients who keep their seasion. This business is what pays my bills. If I don't train, I can't pay my bills. If this level of canceling continues, I might have to have a cancelation fee just so I can still pay my bills. If I can't pay my bills, I can't train dogs, then it doesn't help anyone. So, please, work with me to reschedule.

Today I had 2 clients and 2 cancelations. First was Ollie. Today we did a tandem walk with Ollie and Dakota. Ollie is usually very reactive (excited, not aggressive) around other dogs. Today he had no interest in other dogs or really anyone else. His owner said he's been tired from a medication that he's on. So, hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can try again during his next session. Next was a new client, Charlie. Charlie needs some basic manners and obedience. He also, in typical Terrier fashion, tends to be very vocal. So, we need to install a mute button on this boy. He's so super sweet and learns fast. I'm eager to see this boy progress.
