One thing I really focus on teaching is the power of gathering objective data about our dogs’ tendencies across situations and times. Our memory can mislead us in big ways (but I’ll spare you the exact psychological phenomena explanations!).

Many restrictions/dysfunctions do not start as big, obvious lameness, so the changes are subtle and are often appreciated in hindsight.

My shameless plug is that I can teach you what to observe, how often to make these systematic observations, and what do with the information once you have it! Ideally, this will allow us to capture the changes as they come and before a larger issue is present.

Also, did you catch the pattern in the free stack photos below?

What is Kinected Touch all about? As you can see, we will cover quite a bit!

A lesser known fact about me (Malee) is my background in education. I have spent the last 5 years in higher education working with a diverse body of students and receiving specialized education training, on top of being a learner myself!

This course is truly the opportunity to bridge years of clinical, research and teaching experience to better the lives of our beloved partners. Because I am not sure where any of us would be without our dogs! ❤️ 🐾

Big things are (finally!) coming soon to Kinected Canine!

We are getting ready to launch an online course in February focused on observation, pain awareness, and beginning massage skills for dogs.

Pain is complex and often subtle. This course is designed to help dog sport owners learn their dog’s baseline, recognize meaningful changes, and support wellbeing.

Course content pulls from nearly a decade of experience as a massage therapist for both dogs and people, and knowledge ammassed as a chronic pain researcher studying at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. Stay tuned and follow along for knowledge tidbits!

This! Most of the dogs we choose for sport have a strong desire to do the thing. The signs can be very subtle for these ‘master compensators’ as I call them.

“My dog has never had an injury.”
“My dog runs very fast.”
“My dog Q-ed on that tricky course.”
“My dog came 1st place among X number of dogs.”

It’s easy to think: If my dog is performing well in [insert your sport], they must not have any discomfort or pain, right?

That’s probably wrong.

More often, it just means they are excellent at compensating.

“…but they’re not knocking bars.”
“…but I don’t see issues in their runs.”

Just because your dog performs well does not mean they are pain-free.

Think about human athletes at world events. Many stand on the podium with stellar performances—yet plenty are managing strains, sprains, or fractures.

⭐ Good performance ≠ absence of pain ⭐

Dogs are no different. They can push through soreness, stiffness, or injury—whether that’s in sports like agility, flyball, and dock diving, or simply chasing squirrels and roughhousing with friends.

The difference?
Human athletes choose to compete despite discomfort.
Our canine athletes don’t get that choice.

Some dogs may refuse to participate if they’re uncomfortable, but most will keep playing the game because they love it—and because they want to please us. By the time we notice a dip in performance, they may have been compensating for a long time.

⭐️ Good performance ≠ absence of pain ⭐️

Be your canine companion's advocate - prioritize their wellness before discomfort turns into injury.
