The discussion of Epigeneticās in German Shepherdsā¦
Genetics set the blueprint and that is what matters most.
In German Shepherds, strong nerves, stable temperament, and clear drives are first established through breeding. No amount of raising can replace what isnāt genetically there.
That said, early development still plays a role.
What people often refer to as āepigeneticsā is simply how environment influences the expression of those genetics, not a substitute for them.
A stable, well-managed dam during pregnancy supports early development, but it does not change genetic quality. From there, the first weeks of life help shape how a puppy interacts with the world.
Early raising matters:
⢠Structured, predictable environments
⢠Thoughtful exposure to surfaces, sounds, and handling
⢠Building engagement through food and interaction
⢠Allowing puppies to work through mild challenges and recover
These experiences help bring out confidence, clarity, and engagement, but only if the foundation is already there.
Well-bred dogs develop well.
Well-raised dogs express it fully.
