Horse abuse in the name of horse training.

There's never an excuse for hitting an animal. We hope this conviction will help people who normalize this type of behavior when training horses "wake up" and realize there is a kinder, gentler way.

Last week, Jamaal, the orphaned Alpine Wild Horse HHope for the Alpine Wild Horses who was subjected to an online horse auction in December 2023, (see second photo) went off to his forever home, where he’ll be loved, spoiled and probably never have to scrub another muddy water bucket again.

With one horse fewer in the paddock, there's still a lot of water bucket scrubbing to do. The work doesn’t stop, even when the happy endings happen. Clean buckets, fresh water, and 24/7 care continues.

Yes, we are celebrating but we are rolling up our sleeves and getting back to it 🪣

Fiero is showing us the Flehman response - a curling of the upper lip that several mammals exhibit when investigating odors or tastes. It is also thought that outside this context it can indicate discomfort.

I eat some grass. I take a nap.

Aiyana, one of the mustang babies stretches through the arena fence to nibble on the fresh grass. It's tiring work so she settles in the sun to take a nap. Such a sweet, friendly girl.

Remember Sérif, the owner relinquished horse we were so concerned about health wise? Well look at her now! She's taking a walk with her assigned volunteer, munching on the fresh grass and looking great.

She's put weight on (her diet consists of free feed soaked teff and alfalfa hay pellets plus some senior feed). She is no longer being given Pergolide and is thriving.

It's wonderful to see a healthy horse strolling down the road with a happy volunteer.
