Tribal member Jerry Scott recently sent his career counselor this message to share-
"When I decided to be a police officer I knew it would not be easy. After realizing my years of security officer training and passing numerous police tryouts was not getting it done. I asked for help from my tribe in hopes that the career development program would enable me to get the education and training I had been lacking. The journey through BPOC has been an adventure, with the best training I could ever imagine. From fi****ms, driving at high speeds, defensive tactics to getting OC Sprayed. I can't thank my tribe enough for the assistance they gave me.

His career counselor Tisha Giles has this to say-"Congratulations to Jerry Scott on successfully completing his Basic Peace Officer Certification training and reaching graduation day at Southern Tech in Ardmore, Oklahoma!
Jerry set his sights on becoming a police officer and took the necessary steps to pursue the education and training needed to move forward in that career path. Through hard work, determination, and commitment, he completed each requirement, including his final written exam. His training included many challenging areas of law enforcement preparation, and he stayed focused through it all. We are proud to have supported him through the Career Development Program and are excited to celebrate this major accomplishment.

This may be a first--getting to recognize a husband and wife team at the same time!
Meet Conager and Gentry McBroom; both have recently completed their Physician's Assistant degrees from Northeastern State University and are now employed in the Choctaw Nation Healthcare System. Loads of work for both of them but what an accomplishment AND Gentry had a baby too! We are so excited for them and happy that we got to be a small part of their success.

"My name is Morgan Taylor and I graduated May 8, 2026 from Cameron University with a Masters of Arts in Mental Health in conjunction with the Alcohol/Drug Counseling Certification. I plan on sitting for my National Counselors Exam and Oklahoma Ethics/Regulations Exam over the summer. I will be hopefully working at Marie Detty Youth and Family Services in Duncan, OK. I did my practicum there and loved working with the teenage clients. I hope to do more school-based counseling when I become full time. I am so blessed by Choctaw Nation and the Higher Ed Department and the Career Development Program and their constant support in my dreams. Yakoke!"

Recent graduate Callie Hagelberger sent us this message-"I just want to say Yakoke to thsi program! Your support over the years has been treasured and I'm so thankful, especially to Mr. Billy! I received my Masters in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and I am now a therapist at our Choctaw Nation Chi Hullo Li Women's Substance Abuse Rehab!"

"Hello, my name is Danielle Swift, and I have had the privilege of being a part of the Career Development Program throughout my entire collegiate journey. Not only did the program provide me with financial support, but it also gave me invaluable guidance and encouragement as I worked toward earning my four-year degree.
As a mom to a toddler, while also working and attending school full time, there were many moments when balancing everything felt overwhelming. Having the support of the Career Development Program made such a meaningful difference and helped remind me that I was never alone in this journey.
Jill Reyna has been my career counselor from the very beginning, and I truly could not have asked for anyone better. Her support, encouragement, and belief in me made such a difference throughout my college experience.
On May 15, 2026, I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work degree, and I am now preparing to begin my dream job with Lighthouse Behavioral Wellness Centers. I could not be more grateful for everything the Career Development Program has done for me along the way.
To future students: no matter how impossible the journey may seem at times, keep going. Whether you are balancing work, parenthood, or other responsibilities, your goals are still achievable.
