With both of our shelter locations operating at at or above full capacity, we're in need of foster homes for large dogs (30lbs+). These good boys and girls would love to ditch the shelter and stay at your place for a while, and if you find a good match for your foster guest, you can even complete their adoption yourself so they never have to step foot in the shelter again. Miss Awwzie could really use a little help from her friends. She has been calling the shelter home since 1/8/22 and would really like to find her forever family!

Here is what I learned about Awwzie during our outing together. She hopped right in the car and couldn’t wait to go but did need to be secured in the back. Away from the shelter she walked really well with a harness, and was a with no problems going up and down the steps to my office. Awwzie was playful and affiliative, but did take some nap-breaks 💤between play sessions 😉. During play she can get excited but was mindful to watch out for those fingers and seemed to enjoy the interaction more than the toy on its own. She was friendly and polite with all the visitors who came to greet her, she leaned in for pets, didn’t jump up and repeatedly demonstrated “sit” for treats. She was gentle when offered food and there were no accidents, so she may have some potty training experience. 🙌Overall she was well-behaved, however towards the end of the day she did get a little more talkative (whines and grumbles)…probably to let me know it was close to her mealtime! 😋

Awwzie’s energy level and reactivity to other dogs at the shelter, suggests that she would be best in a home with older kids (12+) and no other pets at this time. Awwzie is struggling and really needs a quiet yet structured environment to decompress in. It was so nice to see her in a new environment where she could be herself. Please consider Awwzie if you are in the market and/or help us share her information! Awwzie is adoptable at the East shelter in Mesa AZ.

Jaguar ( ) is absolutely thriving in his foster home, but he still needs to find his forever family! 👀❤️

He's only about two years old and his new person is going to love how much training he's already mastered. He has a shy but sweet personality, and once you make friends with him he transforms into a 76lb lap dog. Here's what his foster has to share about him:

"He is a big cuddle bug and knows sit, shake, and lay down. He is housetrained and uses the dog door to go outside. He walks with a loose leash, will sit on command on walks, and hasn't been reactive towards people/dogs. He does lay down in grass sometimes when he wants a break or gets overwhelmed. We are working on getting him to resume the walk a bit faster and he has already shown a lot of improvement! He can be shy at first around new people but warms up quickly. He also really likes to play with toys or with me. The only time he barks is when he wants me to play."
