We sincerely apologize, especially to our Wednesday group, but we will have to be closed this Wednesday.

Closing is never ideal but we might have a few short days, or worse case, days where we need to close for the full day, until we have a new staff member trained and ready to help.

Some of you might remember the days where we could manage with just one staff member 😅 We are so thankful to have grown so much these last few years thanks to you all. It takes a whole team to keep these operations running smoothly and our goal is to be well prepared so we don’t miss any days going into our busy season.

Thank you for your continued patience and sorry if we missed you. Hopefully we will catch you later in the week or this weekend.

Tomorrow, we have regular hours. We may have a few days coming up where we have modified hours or are closed. We are fortunate to be growing and in a position to be adding a position to our team but it takes time for us to hire, train and have that staff member ready to go. Please be patient with us in the meantime.

This extra coverage will allow us to fill in the gaps on our busier days to help us increase our speed of service, allow Mark to transition away so he can have a true weekend off (something we have been needing to do for quite some time), and help cover time off requests like my medical leave coming up in July.

This has been a crazy and uncertain year so far but your love and support continues to offer guidance, motivation, and reassurance

We chose Beaverton because we believed that we could grow a community of coffee drinkers who could see their purchases as conduits for something bigger- helping dogs they would never even meet, some who are even hundreds and thousands of miles away.

Together, we proved that a small, neighborhood coffeeshop on a quiet, lesser traveled road has the capability of sending a message of love and altruism- for both humans AND dogs- all around the world. And that we can work to CHANGE the world- by celebrating our love for our companion animals and working to make a better world for them

Mark the roaster pointing at bags featuring our newest coffee offering

Same single origin coffee roasted two ways-

Honduras Medium: apricot, milk chocolate, clean finish

Honduras Dark: stone fruit, milk chocolate, full body

We also have a returning favorite, our Nicaragua plumeria, offered as a light roast with notes of citrus, almond, and milk chocolate

We are fully stocked on bags at the moment but our retail coffees do tend to sell fast

We are paying record high costs for green coffee but we are still committed to our drink coffee, help dog program with a 25% gross donation to the organization listed on the bag of coffee you purchase

Antonio was arrested last night. I don’t have a lot of information other than there was allegedly an event at the Beaverton library involving Antonio, an individual who was possibly trying to drop off a ballot, and Antonio allegedly brandished a weapon on this person.

I started getting calls from news stations wanting interviews, which I found suspicious considering the event that took place at my business, happened over a month ago. I answered one call and I told this journalist that I was en route to my coffeeshop, having received a community tip with very brief information (enough to cause me great concern) and that my first priority was to ensure the safety of my staff and that that was where my immediate focus was at.

We shut down Mutts safely and what was even more concerning to me was that I never saw a single police car go down Angel (Antonio lives just a few blocks away from my business), there was never a BOLO, and I never received a single call from police alerting me in lieu of recent events.

It was my responsibility to get my staff to their cars and out of the neighborhood safely, alert my property owner, and Pokey Pet Pantry volunteers who stop by late to fulfill requests.

In the last month, Antonio has been posting what we believe to be encrypted messages, many of them have been specific to John Dugger, the incumbent Antonio is running against, and our business for going public about the events that took place last month during Antonio’s time at our establishment.

In his latest posts, there was what I believed to be a growing concern for Antonio’s own life and/or those around him. Mutts and John Dugger would be obvious targets but Antonio was also a possible threat to himself.

To have suspicioned that even before the event took place yesterday and know now that he has allegedly had a firearm all this time, just really sends me into a mental and emotional spiral.

At this time, there has not been a press release from either BPD or the City of Beaverton about any of these events and I think you all deserve to know what’s going on.

Please don’t let this distract you from voting today.

Part 3: (please note: this was in 2024) my letter to the board of commissioners recommending 3 areas that could immediately improve the Multnomah County Animal Shelter adoption program

At the time, there were dogs like Winnie who had been in the shelter system for 365 days. These recommendations were meant to help increase adoptions but also help increase the overall success of each adoption

1. Improve the intake photo

2. Increase off-campus adoption events

3. Onboard a behavioral consultant/certified professional dog trainer (either a volunteer position or a paid one)
