Sheesh knows best

Sheesh knows best Sheesh is a sweet and clever boy who is accustomed to making his own decisions. Sheesh is a sweet, goofy, adorable dog who has many friends and fans.

This page aims to keep Sheesh's friends updated on his escapades and general cuteness. According to DNA tests (both Wisdom Panel and Embark), he is an Akita / German Shepherd / Chow-Chow / Bulldog / Other-general-mutt mix. Since Sheesh spent many years living a semi-feral life before coming to live with me, he's used to thinking for himself and making independent decisions that are sometimes surpr

ising to me (his mom). But he's a very clever boy, so it often turns out that Sheesh does indeed know best, at least when it comes to his own interests!

Do not leave your dog outside in this weather! You have to stay out with him and ensure that all of his beds and other seating options are in good order. Wipe down his magical warming square if the melted snow left a puddle on it. He still won't sit on it, because it's slightly moist, but he needs to have options. If you really want to go inside you might have to bribe him with cheese.

I couldn't figure out where Sheesh went in the backyard, until I heard munch-munch-munch and looked behind/under Cow Boy's swing to find him happily sitting in the slushy, icy, wet kiddie pool and munching away on some ice.

He did get up and follow me when I told him "don't get pneumonia, you weirdo". Maybe he misheard "pneumonia" as "cheese".

Apparently he thinks that 70 degrees indoors is way too warm for a double-coated fluffy dog like him. Sorry buddy, but the rest of the household are extremely short-haired pitties and me. I already wear a sweater indoors most of the time!

Cow Boy had a little emergency vet adventure on Friday. In the end, I think it was just a case of having a tummy ache and being very dramatic about it.

He woke up at 6 am throwing up and couldn't keep food down. He freaked out about it a little, then I freaked out about it a little and tried to give him meds, then he freaked out because mommy was trying to give him meds, so he kept trowing up even more, and acting uncomfortable and sad and broken.

When we got to the vet he suddenly remembered that mommy is his friend, and not a suspicious person trying to give him suspicious things. And actually, maybe he would like a treat or some of mommy's tea or something. Naturally, he stopped throwing up and acting uncomfortable, too.

So he got sedated and x-rayed, and it looked like just some inflammation, and he got an anti-nausea shot and went home.

At home he remembered that I was a suspicious person who tries to do weird things to him, so taking off his arm bandage was a bit of a challenge.

He's much better now - the last two pics are him enjoying his freshly-laundered blankie (guess why it had to be laundered). I really have to learn how to account for Cow Boy's dramatic nature before I decide to drag him to an emergency vet. Then again, who knows how long he'd be throwing up for without the anti-nausea shot?

"Hmm, why is there a big hole in the middle of my backyard? Let me put this bucket over it so the dogs don't step in it when they're running around like crazy..."
"Ah, yes, that went exactly as I should have expected it would."

Not pictured: Cow Boy digging up the cool hole he discovered after tipping the bucket over; Cow Boy getting the zoomies because the bucket is so exciting, and running around like crazy in the backyard... after removing the bucket from the hole, obviously.

Some van shenanigans.

The rear door stopped opening (pretty sure the latch mechanism broke or got disconnected from the handles), so I couldn't get Glee into her crate yesterday, and she had to ride up front. It was going well until she got bored and tried to go exploring. She did manage to get back up on the seat once she realized she can't go anywhere, just not quite in the same state before!

And Sheesh thinks he can drive. Again.

Oh darn. Where did Sheesh go? He is such a cunning dog and so good at hiding when he doesn't want to put his harness on.

An amazing thing just happened with these two!

As you may or may not know, we live in a "managed household" and Glee doesn't interact with the other dogs directly at home because she's special. But Glee and Cow Boy have been working really hard with Good Dog Enrichment and Training on becoming friends with each other.

Well, today, I closed all the dog gates for the other dogs to let Glee out in the backyard, only to realize (too late to do anything about it) that Cow Boy was not in the bedroom like I thought, but chilling in the backyard himself!

As soon as Glee and Cow Boy saw each other, they got excited and ran toward each other and started to play! Now, they were still both clearly very confused about this weird situation. Cow Boy was doing his best to be small and non-threatening, and Glee had all her hackles up. But their body language was loose, and they were playing really nicely, mixing it up with running around and coming together, and sniffing each other.

And, because I knew that they've played at Good Dog before, I mostly didn't panic and encouraged them to play nicely and then to split up, and Cow Boy followed me and went behind a gate with no problem!

And Glee didn't try to guard me, or the random squeaker that they stepped on while playing, or anything else!

We clearly still have to work on making this situation feel more "normal" to them, but I am so proud of everybody!

"Oh yeah?! If my mobility was really 3/10 (like you just told the vet), would I be able to steal your fancy cream cheese brioche out of the grocery bag, run away and hide with it, open it, and start eating it while you were distracted by Cow Boy for a few seconds?!" - Sheesh, probably.

Glee got really playful with her toy for once! usually she just kinda chases it and then gives up before even getting there.
