We don't take puctures often, but here are some of our boarding dogs from this summer. We have had a lot of unique personalities come through. Different, shapes, sizes, colors, and ages. Some already trained, some with a request to receive some training during their stay, or just maintain basic good behavior. The older dogs usually go hang together in their own group and sunbath, the youngins race around chasing and playing, while the reserved and chill personalities usually sit back and watch. Big pack walks are always interesting, but so rewarding as we watch the dogs bond. Our founders children enjoy helping entertain and care for each dog as they learn how to interact with dogs properly, and how to read a dogs body language. Even many of the kid shy dogs have warmed up to the older children. One dog in particular that always struggled with boarding really attached to the oldest child, following him around the yard and would only play ball with him.

While we often do have a good bit of group play, we are also set up to be able to keep dogs that are not friendly with other dogs safe and separate from the group. These dogs typically recieve more one on one time to ensure they are still receiving a rewarding experience.

As safety and security are of prime importance to us, some of the dogs that are nervous being handled, or are prone to trying to escape enclosures, we attach long lines to drag behind them allowing us to give them the space they want and allowing them the most freedom possible. In rare cases where a dog comes through that is new to boarding and very frightened, or for the escape artists, we may keep them on a 6 food leash and hand walk them for all their exercise during their stay. Usually after a few visits they are able to be let off leash for their stay.

Here at Paws in Place, our aim is to create a safe rewarding experience for your dog(s) whether it be a nice country vacation, an activity packed stay, or an opportunity to build their self esteem and confidence.

DOG BOARDING!!!

Paws In Place is in the final stages of renovation on our small new dog boarding facility, we are down to cosmetics, but are ready for boarders. To schedule your dogs stay with us, please text or call 517-617-8801

Our boarding is located at our founders home, offering climate controlled environment in a country setting. a large fenced yard gives adequate room to potty, run and play.

For those dogs that are child or other dog safe (based on owners permission), they are able to run and play with our founders children, and personal dogs that match with yours. Dogs are exercised to help create a tired calm environment for when dogs are in their kennels.

Dogs that are vocal when crated will be worked with to reduce their own stress, and those around them. Dogs that do not get along with children and other dogs will be let out in a separate yard or hand walked to give adequate exercise while keeping everyone safe.

Our goal is to minimize time dogs are in the kennels and give them a vacation as well.

Looking forward to taking care of valued family member.

Tuesday August 1st at 11 a.m. was a very sad moment as Onyx Jade Ledoux, one of our mascots, and a beloved companion to her family, had to be laid to rest due to severe joint arthritis and degrading in one of her knees. at ten and a half years old there was sadly no reasonable options that would improve her quality of life, so her family made the hard decision to release her from her pain.

In 2013, just two years after the opening of Paws In Place, one year old Onyx (a Dutch Shepherd) joined her new family, and became a mascot for us, demonstrating not only training in a large variety of areas, including some sports, but overall good dog etiquette. She trained for Narcotic detection, dabbled in Bitework, competed in dock diving, lure coursing, and obedience. She demonstrated some of her training at our fair booths, and assisted in our dog training classes where needed. In her leisure time she enjoyed her family, playing fetch with the rest of her pack through obstacle courses, camping, hiking, biking, swimming, and just being with her family.

In 2018, she helped welcome their first child/new pack member, a little boy named Asher, and she was amazing and so gentle around the baby. She quickly learned how to properly walk alongside a stroller, and respect the new baby's personal space, as the boy grew to a toddler, she helped stand watch over him while he played, and was super patient in his learning process on what is acceptable and not when interacting with dogs. She also helped Asher with his autism through helping him in learning to socialize with other children.

In 2020, she once again helped the family welcome a baby girl, Gabby. Despite getting older, and showing signs of arthritis, she still did amazing with the new baby and helping teach the new little one the ropes.

Over the last couple years, due to her arthritis, her free time with the children was limited, for everyone's safety, to training times and during special supervision. But she was still able to help start the children on the learning path of leash walking, properly correcting the dogs, and giving commands.

When her pain became too much, her whole family came to be with her as she drifted off to sleep, her last sight was of the kids saying goodbye.

A very gentle soul, but also a fierce protector when she thought her people were in danger, she can never be replaced, but will be missed and remembered forever.

Available for adoption

Name: Diamond
Breed: Pit Bull
Gender: Female
Breeding Status: Intact
Age: 1 year
Color: Tan (very very faint brindle)

Reason: Diamond's owner came to this decision in tears as this is her "baby", she had to make a choice for Diamonds best interest due to unavoidable life and home circumstances.

Pros:
- Loves people
- Learns quickly
- Eager to please (just needs help calming down enough to pay attention)
- Crate trained
- No aggression issues

Cons:
- She is a jumper on everyone, she is so excited and happy to meet people that she jumps (our trainers will be working with her on that while she is here)
- She had been having accidents in her previous home (upon evaluation, most of the issue comes down to she got too distracted to potty, so when she came back inside she had an accident, regular walks and exercise have fairly quickly ended this issue).
- Chews, if she gets bored she will chew things, so she does need to be crated when left alone, and kept an eye on when loose with her people (again, with regular exercise, and providing appropriate chews, this has mostly settle down)
- Overwhelming: she plays like she loves, very intense, she may need help learning when other dogs are done and need a break, and many dogs may not handle her play style well, so caution when pairing her off with another dog is advised (she listens to our 12 year old dog most of the time, and is doing fantastic with our 6 month old puppy and 8 year old Vizsla, just needs to be told to take a break from play sometimes.
- getting better on leash: She will pull, but in the hands of someone experienced, she quickly stops pulling and settles into a walk.

Temperament/Personality Overview:
She has come from a limited outdoor, play, and exercise apartment life, so consistent exercise and a fenced yard she will LOVE. Most of the cons we will list below are pretty much stemming from lack of consistent and appropriate exercise and rules. She loves people, and to be loved. Her previous owner stated she loves the vet and groomer, and loves kids. Inside our fence she will alert and look ferocious when someone comes in the driveway (a plus for those wanting an intimidating looking dog) but it is all a display, and she is more than happy to let the person pet her.

We have evaluated her with our children, aside from her jumping and over excitement, she is good with kids.

The only signs of aggression has been when another dog tries to take something she is actively chewing on, or won't stop something when she indicates she is done, but she just does enough to get the other dog to back off, and is very appreciative when human steps in to help her. (Basically she will stick up for herself if another dog is being disrespectful, but prefers not to have to).

She is fine with cats, ducks and chickens, very easily shut down by a cat that doesn't like dogs, but is happy to be buddies with our dog friendly cats. Rarely chases the chickens or ducks, and it's just for fun.

Her adoption fee is $350

Paws In Place and Khan's Working Canine Rescue are pairing up to take on rescue dogs in an attempt to help relieve the pressure on other rescues and shelters. Space is very limited at this time, and selective. We will be advertising these dogs as they come through, so stay tuned.
