What happens to your cat when you "rehome" or "surrender" them to a shelter? This is hard to hear, but it is sadly the truth.
1. Confusion and heartbreak. Your cat is used to their family and surroundings. Losing that familiarity causes them to shut down. Often hiding in corners or hiding spots.
2. They cry endlessly for hours and hours and hours, until their little voices are gone.
3. They stop eating. Slowly starving themselves. The shelter/rescue offers them everything under the sun to try and get them to eat. They just won't.
4. The stress and trauma of losing everything they've ever known will trigger inactive illnesses to become active. So now they're scared, confused, starving, AND sick.
5. The rescue/shelter that took on YOUR RESPONSIBILITY now has to make the gut wrenching decision to either (1) Watch your cat decline to the point of death, or (2) Humanely euthanize your cat.
So PLEASE don't move where you can't take your pet. If you "suddenly develop an allergy", just take the damn Benadryl. If you "don't have the time to give her the attention she deserves", rearrange your priorities.
Not all stories have a happy ending.
