Our next Pet Wellness Month spotlight is the adorable Roxie Berry! 🐾💗

Roxie came to see us last week for her annual wellness exam, where her owner shared concerns about some pain and discomfort in her back legs. After discussing her symptoms, Dr. Yates recommended adding laser therapy to her treatment plan to help manage her arthritis and improve her comfort.

✨ So, what is laser therapy? Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused light energy to help reduce pain and inflammation while promoting faster tissue healing. We use laser therapy in all of our surgical cases to promote healing at the incision site, but it can also be incredibly beneficial for pets with arthritis, soft tissue injuries, wounds, and lick granulomas.

During each session, both pets and our staff wear protective goggles to shield their eyes from the laser. 😎 We were so happy to see Roxie back a few days after her wellness exam for her first laser therapy session! And can we talk about how cute she looked in her goggles?! 🥹💕

We’re excited to help Roxie feel her best and look forward to seeing her continue to improve!

🐾 October is National Pet Wellness Month! 🐾

Regular veterinary wellness exams are an important part of keeping your pet happy and healthy. Just like routine visits to your physician or dentist, wellness exams can help detect potential health concerns early—when they may be easier, less costly, and more successful to treat.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing real-life cases and helpful information about the importance of your pet’s annual wellness exams.

Our first spotlight is Bud Clayton! 🐶

Bud came to see Dr. Edie less than two months ago for his annual wellness exam. He looked great overall, but we noticed he was carrying a few extra pounds. After switching to a weight-management diet, Bud has already lost 5 pounds—and counting! 🎉

His owners report that he’s feeling great and has even more energy!

We are so proud of you, Bud! Keep up the great work! 🥰🐾

We'd like to welcome our newest veterinarian - Dr. Edie Thomas! Dr. Edie is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi. As the daughter of a veterinarian, she grew up in a home filled with animals. Whether caring for three-legged dogs, a rescue cat, or a nest of songbirds, she was always surrounded by pets. From an early age, she knew she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps. Watching her father and Dr. King build Tupelo Small Animal Hospital solidified her passion for veterinary medicine, inspiring her dream to practice in the clinic she always called home.

Dr. Edie attended Mississippi State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science in 2021. She continued her education at MSU CVM, graduating with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2026.

Dr. Edie strives to make every client feel welcomed, comfortable, and confident that their pet is receiving the exact same care she would give her own. She is profoundly grateful to serve the people and pets of Tupelo and the surrounding areas, and she looks forward to growing alongside the wonderful families she has the privilege of caring for.
