Surgery Spotlight: Fracture Repair
Or in this case, polytrauma! Polytrauma is a term used when there are multiple, severe traumatic injuries suffered by a patient.

Tonka is a 1 year old male pug who recently had multiple injuries after he was hit by a car. He was referred to us for fracture repairs of his right femur, right acetabulum, and right sacroiliac (SI) joint. The femur fracture was repaired with a bone plate and screws. His acetabular fracture and femoral neck fracture was addressed with a femoral head ostectomy (FHO). And finally, his SI luxation was repaired with a lag screw and washer.
The great news is that Tonka was standing on his own the day after surgery!

He will need time to heal (6 weeks) and he must wear his ecollar, but he will be back to his old self in no time! We are so happy we got to meet such a sweet and brave pup!

Get well soon, Tonka! We 💗 you!

Today we’re celebrating Administrative Professionals Day, and we couldn’t let it pass without recognizing two incredible people who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes—Rita and Lela! 👯‍♀️💗

From coordinating the chaos to being the calm, friendly voices our clients depend on, they are truly the backbone of our clinic! Their attention to detail, compassion, and ability to juggle all the things never go unnoticed. 👏🏻📞💻📲🐶🤪💗

We are so grateful for everything they do each and every day—our team (and our patients!) would absolutely be lost without them. 💛

Please join us in showing some love and appreciation for Rita and Lela today!! 💗

Surgery Spotlight: Gastropexy 🐾

Meet Sugar 🐶, a 1 year-old female Standard Poodle, who recently came to our clinic for a prophylactic gastropexy, spay, and umbilical hernia correction.

A gastropexy is a preventative surgery where the outer wall of the stomach is sutured to the pet’s body wall, in order to prevent the stomach from flipping in the future. When a stomach flips, it quickly turns into an emergency situation (gastric dialtation volvulus/GDV)!
There are many proposed causes of why a dog‘s stomach flips, but deep chested dogs are more predisposed to the injury.
Many owners choose to schedule the preventative surgery along with their pet’s spay or neuter. The additional time under anesthesia is minimal, and owners can live with less fear of bloat in the future!

Sugar did very well for her procedures and is already back to going to the office daily with her dad! 💗🐾
We are so happy that we could help sugar and her family! 😷🐶💕
