🦎 Rescue Update 💗

We are 🚫CLOSED🚫 for reptile intake for a few weeks. We have a confirmed second case of Cryptosporidium in one of our intakes.

While we disinfect and clean, we are closing reptile intake. Sorry for any inconvenience! 😞 We are taking all necessary precautions for the rest of our current adoptables and our ambassadors.

Cryptosporidium protozoa is an incurable intestinal infection caused by a parasite. It is incurable, though treatment does exist. Unfortunately, once symptoms set in, it is too late.

"Crytpo" as we call it is severely contagious. Disinfecting for it is a tedious process.

🦎SOFT INTAKE FREEZE 🦎

Yes, we are currently on a soft intake freeze. What is a "soft intake freeze"? Well, it simply means that we are not currently taking in animals that we cannot immediately place in a foster home or adopt out quickly. We are still relatively full. We do have a few fosters we still need to reach back out to, things have been so chaotic here, but even then, we will still have a pretty large number of animals here waiting for their forever homes. And that's okay 💗But we want to make sure everyone here has plenty of attention, love, and care. We also are getting into our busy life season. We are only volunteers that do this alongside our real life. We aren't like shelters who get paid or get funding to do this 24/7 or 8/5. We run on out-of-pocket funding, full-time jobs, and a prayer, just like every other rescue out there.

Medical Surrenders/Emergency Surrenders: We will still accept these circumstances at this time. Please be up front, open, and honest with us if you are surrendering a medically complex animal so we can prepare properly. Our local vet operates certain days/hours, so if we need an emergency visit- we have to prep for transport.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Ziggy, one of our most recent intakes, passed away today. We tried extremely hard to get him better, but his little body gave out before it could recover.

Ziggy's death could've been prevented with proper care and husbandry. He was surrendered by a very special person who tried so hard to help him as well. Unfortunately, the neglect from before did catch up to him.

Please, please, please do your research prior to getting a pet. These creatures are often mismarketed at pet stores. The care they need is far more complex than most realize, and without it they suffer. It's absolutely devastating.

Ziggy was so sweet and deserved so much more in his past. He truly would've been a great gecko if given the chance.

💗RESCUE UPDATE💗

Things here have been... well... interesting. We had an arm break and surgery, AC unit gave out, and more. This week's rescue saga involved moving a big ole Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus) from the middle of the road, and a tree frog from in a home. The Cottonmouth was safely relocated to a culvert near a large field we assume she had been hanging out in (small pond nearly). The tree frog was washed up, doctored up, and went back with his little snacking buddies.

We do relocate snakes locally and in surrounding areas, both venomous and non-venomous.

This big gal only showed me her mouth when she got cornered in the culvert and didn't want me to get in there with her. I reassured her that I was perfectly fine with standing up on the little bank area far away! 😅🤣

💗🦎 Rescue Update🦎💗

To say we've been busy is definitely an understatement!

We have 5 Leopard Geckos in our care right now that are available for adoption. If you have reached out to foster, I promise I am getting back to you shortly!

We have 3 guinea pigs in foster care right now also ready to be adopted into forever homes.

Ziggy and Zilla, our 2 very sickly Leopard Geckos, are still hanging in there. Another vet visit is in the cards soon, because even with treatment, the improvement has been minimal. Sometimes we have to re-evaluate our methods and try again.

We had an intake of 2 boas. Both boys are absolutely stunning and still in their quarantine period. We have a potential adopter lined up for both, but they have to travel to meet the snakes first and see if it's a good fit. We will update as we go! Right now, both snakes are in phenomenal health! Both are absolutely stunning as well.

We had a ferret come in and she has officially been promoted to ambassador status (which means she is staying here). The entire team here as fell in love with her, and she is so spoiled. Her cage is taller than I am! We will get her a friend when the time comes as well since they do better in couples or small groups.

We can't thank you all enough for the support, shares, and kindness from all of you. It truly means the world to us.

Successfully litter box trained our ambassador ferret 🥹

She has occasional accidents, and she will refuse to go if her litter box is not to her standards, but she has done phenomenal!

The thing I hear most about ferrets is they're smelly and gross. Well, ferrets do have a natural musk odor. It isn't necessarily unpleasant. I often refer to it as what I'd think a young raccoon would smell like (just one that hasn't yet been in trash). Their f***s and urine do smell if they're not on an appropriate diet. Many commercial kibble diets are not suited for ferrets. Ferrets are obligate carnivores. Any additives that are not strictly animal based protein are unhealthy and will cause digestive upset. This causes the smell. If they're fed appropriately, the smell is very minimal and tolerable. Kibble diets based solely on protein and raw diets are the best for ferrets. We use Oxbow for now as Sharkie is not a fan of raw diet foods.

Ferrets can also be potty trained to use a litter box! They're very intelligent creatures, but due to their stubborn nature they require a strict routine to train. Once they get the hang of it, it's great to help reduce smells and keep their cage odor down! Her bedding (absorbent liners) gets washed once a week and spot cleaned, if needed, every day.

With the correct care and devoted time, these sweet critters can make amazing pets for the right family. We love our Sharkie girl 💗 She is quite spoiled! 😆
