💡 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Meet Felicia Springer, LVT! 💡

Our clinic family wouldn't be complete without the incredible skills, warmth, and dedication of our technical team! 🐾 Today, we are turning the spotlight on Felicia Springer, one of our wonderful Licensed Veterinary Technicians who has been keeping your beloved pets safe and healthy with us for 3.5 years!
Felicia plays a massive role in ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes at Tumwater Veterinary Hospital. From assisting the doctors to providing direct, compassionate care during treatments, Felicia's expertise is a vital part of our daily practice.

We caught up with Felicia to ask her a few questions about her time with the team:
1. What has been your favorite part about spending the last 3.5 years with the Tumwater team?

My favorite part has been the overall culture of the hospital. Christy has done an amazing job at making sure the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

2. What area of veterinary medicine or patient care are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about surgeries and the patient care that comes with it.

3. What is the best part about teaming up with our doctors every day?

The best part for me is seeing the collaboration between the doctors. Every one practices great medicine but it’s unique to each doctor, so it’s great to be a part of that.

4. What is your top health tip for our local pet owners?

My top health tip for pet owners would be to run annual blood work starting from when they are puppies and kittens. It’s super important to be able to get baseline values when pets are young and healthy since it allows our doctors to catch changes quicker.

Celebrating 10 Years with Megan Enger, LVT! 💡

It takes an incredible amount of dedication, skill, and heart to care for our community's pets, and today we have a massive milestone to celebrate! 🎉 Join us in giving a huge round of applause to Megan Enger, one of our incredible Licensed Veterinary Technicians, who is celebrating 10 years with the Tumwater Veterinary Hospital family! 🐾
For a decade, Megan has worked hand-in-hand with our doctors, ensuring your beloved dogs and cats receive the highest quality care. From monitoring complex surgical procedures to giving gentle comfort to nervous patients, Megan is a vital pillar of our clinic family.

We sat down with Megan to ask her a few questions about her 10-year journey:
1. What has been the most rewarding part of spending a decade at Tumwater Veterinary Hospital?

Being at TVH for a decade I have met many of clients and pets. But now that I have been with the team for so long, I get to see our patients grow from babies into their senior years and get to hold their paw through it all.

2. How has veterinary medicine changed since you first started out a decade ago?

Medicine has changed soo much! There're so many products, equipment, and diets that have come out to help our doctors diagnose and recommend treatment for our pet owners. More medications are being developed into multiple routes of administration to help our clients treat their pets at ease. Back then, that wasn't possible!

3. What is your absolute #1 piece of advice for our local pet parents?

I am not sure if I have a favorite part with collaborating with our doctors honestly. We are unbelievably lucky here at TVH to have our four amazing doctors. They are amazing to work with and sharing ideas and tricks that we have all learned on our journey in VetMed. Truly enjoy our DVM team.

4. What is your absolute #1 piece of advice for our local pet parents?

Number one advice, there are NO stupid questions. If you are unsure of something, ask. No matter if you're a new or experienced pet parent. We are all here to help educate you and your families. That even means our children. Let them ask questions too, they want to help take care of their pet. 😊

🐾🖤 Double the cuteness at Tumwater Veterinary Hospital! Please help us give a warm welcome to our new client and their beautiful furbabies, Sparrow and Nami!

October is Black Cat Awareness Month, and 12-week-old Sparrow completely stole our hearts during her clinic visit. This gorgeous little "house panther" is the perfect reminder of how wonderful black cats are. Despite their sweet, goofy personalities, black cats still face some of the lowest adoption rates in shelters—but Miss Sparrow is here to prove they bring nothing but joy and good luck!

As if Sparrow wasn't enough sweetness for one day, her owner also brought in her big sister, Nami, a stunning 4-year-old Siamese! 💙 We absolutely loved meeting this dynamic duo and are so happy to welcome them to our clinic family.

Everyone, meet River! This curious 2-year-old Australian Shepherd just popped in for her very first wellness exam with Dr. Kristen Pitsenbarger—and she made sure to investigate every single corner of the exam room!

River absolutely aced her checkup and won over the entire team by handing out the sweetest little kisses. (Though we have a feeling her love for peanut butter might have helped us make fast friends! ❤️)

🐾 Community Update! 🐾
We are incredibly proud of our team! September 12th, Dr. Rao, Dr. Pitsenbarger, Sam, Veterinary Assistant, and Felicia a Licensed Technician donated their time to help the Squaxin Island Tribe with a community vaccine clinic.
Thanks to their hard work and dedication, tribal members were able to get 31 dogs and 18 cats vaccinated and treated for fleas! 🐶🐱
We are so glad that we were able to partner with the Rez Animal Resources and Education Foundation to support the Squaxin Island Tribe this year. This marks the second year in a row we’ve been able to help out, and we look forward to many more opportunities to give back to our community.
Thank you to our amazing staff and partners for making this event such a success! ❤️✨

🐾 FOUND CAT: Lacey, WA 🐾
A good Samaritan found a female cat by a dumpster at Woodsprings Suites in Lacey on Monday, October 6, and brought her here to our hospial on Tuesday. She was in active labor when she arrived.
She and her kittens are doing well and are being cared by our team. She looks well cared for, so we’d love to help reunite her with her family if someone is missing her. She has no microchip.
If you think she’s yours, please call us at 360-754-6008. We’ll ask for a detailed description (color, markings, collar, etc.) and other identifying information to confirm ownership.

🐾 We’ve had some delightful visitors at the clinic recently! 🐾
Our very own Dr. Rao had the absolute pleasure of treating two wonderful patients this week.

First up was Fievel, a energetic 2-year-old Border Collie who brought tons of smiles and wagging tails to the team. Right after, we got to spend some time with Moshe, a absolutely stunning Maine C**n who charmed everyone in the room, including Sam, Dr Rao's assistant! 🐶🐱

We love helping your furry family members stay happy and healthy. Thank you for trusting us with their care!

Aspen needs a medical foster home ASAP

Joint Animal Services is urgently looking for a short-term medical foster for a sweet dog named Aspen.

Aspen came to us as a stray after being found wandering Capitol State Forest. She's a sweet, anxious girl who is struggling in the shelter. We don't believe she has ever lived in a home before, and she's still learning the ropes — including walking on a leash.

Aspen needs surgery to remove mammary tumors, and she needs a quiet place to recover on crate rest. The shelter is a stressful environment, which makes dogs more likely to tear open an incision or get sick while healing. A foster home gives her the best chance at a smooth recovery.

What Aspen needs from a foster home:

🐾A safe, quiet space to rest and decompress for 2–3 weeks
🐾Someone able to keep her on crate rest and give daily medication
🐾Transportation to the shelter for follow-up recheck appointments
🐾Ideally a fully fenced yard for potty breaks

A note on other pets and kids: Because Aspen came to us as a stray, we don't know her history with cats or children. She will also need to be kept fully separate from any other dogs in the home while she heals. A home without other animals or young kids is ideal, but we're happy to talk through your setup.

What we provide: everything — crate, food, toys, harness, treats, medication, and all medical care. Fostering costs you nothing but time and space.
