My heart is broken. Yesterday our sweet baby Suzie crossed over the rainbow bridge. We only got to spend 4 years with her, but it is difficult to remember a time when she was not a part of our family. She brought so much joy and love to our family and she will be dearly missed. I know she is in a better place now and I hope to one day see her again.
Suzie captured our hearts on Valentine's Day 2015. She was hiding under a table at a Homeward Bound Pug Rescue Meet & Greet in Oklahoma City. Hannah saw her and instantly feel in love. She was the best Valentine's gift ever. She was about 5 years old when we got her. She had been mistreated and used for breeding. She was scared of people and did not like to be picked up or petted. Over time, we taught her that love was a good thing and she learned to enjoy belly rubs and enjoyed traveling all over the city and interacting with other people. She in turn taught us a lot about love too.
Some of my favorite memories:
She would go bonkers when it was feeding time. She would stand on two legs and try to get the food. She would run in circles and kick my legs to get her food.
When she learned that belly rubs felt good, she would start pawing at us if we stopped. It was so cute. You could rub her belly (or as we say it, her bell bell) and then hold out your hand and she would give you a high five to say that she wants more. If you didn't pet her, she would paw at you more aggressively and pull your hand toward her to let you know that you're not done petting her yet.
When a new dog park opened near us, we took the dogs to check it out. The park had a walking path so I let the dogs off leash and walked around on the path while the dogs were supposed to socialize with the other dogs. Suzie followed me the whole way. She is like my shadow. I will miss her more than I can express. She used to follow me everywhere. I could be in the bathroom and hear little claws tapping on the tile floor outside. She would sit there waiting for me to come out.
We would take Betty Lou and Suzie around the city and to events in their red stroller. It was our favorite thing to do. Just seeing the smiles that they would bring to people's faces as they saw our pugs made us feel good. We could hear people talk about how cute our pugs were as they walked by. Kids and adults alike would ask us if they could pet our dogs. Suzie and Betty Lou loved it and we loved it too. We created a website and a Facebook and Instagram page to share their adventures with the world. We know that little Suzie provided a lot of joy to a lot of people. Her time on Earth was short, but her impact was immense.
We will always love you Suzie. We are grateful for the time that we were blessed to spend with you.
