People please do NOT approach breeders with a message like this!!!

If you do you are likely to get no response at all, be blocked, or get a response such as this one.

Ethical breeders don’t respond well to a message like this if they respond at all.

Practice some puppy buyer etiquette.

We as preservation breeders have a waiting list, and we want our puppies to go to the very best home. After all we LOVE them first. Approach them with the intent to sell yourself to them. Tell them about yourself and your family, home life, and what you are looking for in a puppy whether it be a pet, a dog you plan to do sports with, conformation show, breeding, all of it, within that information it’s ok to ask questions such as price and location, but don’t let that be the only questions you ask and nothing else. A little introduction goes a long way.

We don’t sell puppies to the first person to come to your messenger with cash in hand. It doesn’t work that way with ethical breeders.

I am posting this specifically because I do NOT have any puppies here now, and don’t anticipate any for a while. So you know that I’m not singling any real person out. This is because i…

AI Is the Next Battleground for the Future of Purebred Dogs -Ingra Aamodt

For decades, we’ve worked to educate the public about responsible dog ownership, preservation breeding, and the importance of buying from health-tested, ethical breeders. At the same time, animal rights organizations have become increasingly effective at influencing public opinion through websites, articles, social media, and search engines.

Now, the conversation is changing again.

People are no longer relying solely on Google to find information. Increasingly, they’re asking ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Claude, and other AI assistants questions like:

* “What is the best breed for my family?”
* “Where can I find a reputable breeder?”
* “Should I adopt or buy a puppy?”
* “How do I avoid a puppy mill?”
* “Are Airedales good with children?”
* “What health tests should a breeder perform?”

The answers AI provides will influence how millions of people think about purebred dogs and where they begin their search for a puppy.

The question is simple:

Who do we want AI to learn from?

Should it learn from organizations whose mission is to eliminate purebred dog breeding? From backyard breeders with polished marketing but little accountability? From anonymous blogs and social media posts?

Or should it learn from the people who have spent generations preserving these breeds?

No one is better qualified to educate prospective puppy buyers than the American Kennel Club, our parent clubs, regional kennel clubs, and preservation breeders. Together, we possess generations of knowledge about breed history, purpose, temperament, health testing, genetics, structure, grooming, training, and responsible breeding.

The challenge is that expertise doesn’t automatically become visible to AI.

Just as websites were once optimized for Google through Search Engine Optimization (SEO), we are entering an era of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)—creating and organizing content so AI systems recognize it as accurate, trustworthy, and authoritative.

This isn’t about gaming AI.

It’s about making sure the best information is the easiest information for AI to find and recommend.

Imagine if every parent club created the definitive online resource for its breed.

Imagine if every breed club published comprehensive educational articles answering the questions puppy buyers actually ask.

Imagine if every regional kennel club strengthened its educational content about responsible dog ownership and breeder referrals.

Imagine if the AKC coordinated this effort by helping clubs build content that AI consistently recognizes as authoritative.

Instead of allowing others to define preservation breeding, we could ensure that prospective owners receive accurate, balanced, evidence-based information before they ever contact a breeder.

This is an opportunity to educate—not just people who already attend dog shows, but millions of families who may never have met a preservation breeder before asking AI for advice.

The organizations that begin building AI authority today will help shape the conversation for years to come.

A Call to Action

Most of us aren’t on the boards of the AKC or our parent clubs—but every one of us belongs to organizations that can influence this conversation.

If you’re a member of a parent club, regional kennel club, or local all-breed club, bring this idea forward.

Ask whether your club has an AI strategy.

Ask whether your website is being updated to become the definitive educational resource for your breed.

Encourage your communications, education, and website committees to learn about Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and how AI is changing the way people search for information.

The next generation of puppy buyers will not search the internet the same way previous generations did.

If we want AI to direct people toward preservation breeders, health testing, breed education, and responsible ownership, we need to become the sources AI trusts.

For generations, preservation breeders have protected the future of our breeds.

Now we must also help protect the future of the information about our breeds.

The future of purebred dogs won’t be shaped only in the whelping box or the show ring.

It will also be shaped by the answers people receive when they ask AI their very first question.

The Police are now saying if you see a dog locked in a car in hot weather, take a picture of the dog and the car. If someone is with you, get them to bring up the weather for your area on their phone so you can screen shot the temp, then break the car window. This way, you will not be charged with criminal damage and it gives the police photo evidence to take the dog owners to court.
Can everyone please copy and paste this information to prevent this cruel act from happening?

🐶💚 Why Positive Training Works Better Than Punishment

Training is about communication, trust, and helping your dog understand what you expect. Modern animal behavior research consistently shows that positive reinforcement creates stronger learning outcomes and healthier relationships between dogs and their owners.

❌ Punishment Increases Stress
Harsh corrections can trigger fear and anxiety, making dogs feel uncertain rather than helping them understand the desired behavior.

😟 Fear Doesn't Teach Understanding
A dog may stop a behavior temporarily to avoid discomfort, but this doesn't mean it has learned what it should do instead.

🙈 Trust Can Be Damaged
Repeated punishment may cause dogs to become withdrawn, avoid interaction, or feel less secure around their owners.

⚠️ Stress Can Lead to Defensive Reactions
When dogs feel threatened or overwhelmed, they may respond with fear-based behaviors that can create additional challenges.

✅ Positive Reinforcement Encourages Learning
Rewarding desired behaviors helps dogs clearly understand which actions bring positive outcomes, making learning faster and more effective.

🎯 Motivation Improves Performance
Dogs naturally repeat behaviors that are rewarded, helping good habits become consistent over time.

🤝 Confidence and Trust Grow Together
Positive experiences strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners, creating a relationship built on security and cooperation.

🧠 Better Retention and Long-Term Results
Dogs trained with encouragement and rewards often learn more efficiently and retain lessons longer than those trained through fear or intimidation.

❤️ A Stronger Human–Dog Relationship
Kindness, patience, and consistency help build a lasting partnership where dogs feel safe, confident, and eager to engage.

💚 Effective training is not about controlling a dog through fear. It is about guiding behavior through understanding, trust, and positive reinforcement, creating a happier dog and a stronger lifelong bond.
