25 dogs arrived at HSSA today! 23 from Pima Animal Care Center and a sweet pair from Cochise County Sheriff Office’s Animal Control Division. Our staff moved quickly to get pets out of carriers on this hot day and into more comfortable accommodations. Their kennels waited, already supplied with beds, blankets, toys, and water.

We’ll also move as quickly as we can to get them ready for adoption—so be on the lookout for these fresh faces!

So much gratitude to our staff and transfer partners; it’s amazing what we can accomplish when we work together 💕

A tumor hiding in plain sight

The shelter is a tough place for any dog, but shy senior Piper had an especially hard time with the transition after her owner died.

Thanks to supporters, she landed safely at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. And it's a good thing she came to us when she did; we discovered two small masses hidden on her chest during her intake exam.

Testing revealed one was a cancerous mast cell tumor, which can spread in a matter of days depending on their grade. We needed to remove and test the tumor, and fast.

Within days, the Second Chance Medical Fund allowed us to remove and test Piper's tumor. And the results showed a low-grade tumor, meaning interested adopters heard a great prognosis right away!

Your support means pets like Piper don't have to wait for the care they need. When you give to the Second Chance Medical Fund, you not only help us pay for medications, supplies, testing, and veterinary expertise; you help sick and injured pets find families faster.

And your dollars are doubled when you give today! The Kelley and Chris Legacy Fund is matching gifts up to $10,000 through August 31 to help us save even more lives!

No pet should have to wait to get the care they need. With your support, shelter pets won't have to.

Don't let his name fool you—this guy will always stick by your side!

Rove is a 1-year-old pittie mix who came to us from PACC while he was fighting off distemper. As a PACC volunteer favorite, his reputation preceded him, and we were quickly won over too. There's so much to love: his goofy personality, cute blocky head, his taste for belly rubs... but it's his resilience we love most of all!

Following illness and isolation, he has grown in big ways, even at the shelter. Volunteers have taught him sit, roll over, to walk up and down an A-frame, and are helping him get used to a crate. What a smart boy!

His fee is covered, and he comes with food, treats, and training to help him thrive in his new home! So, really, there's no reason not to come meet him soon

Saved by the side of the highway 💜

When two community members saw a distressed cat just off I-10, they put themselves at risk to catch her and bring her to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

Paralyzed with fear, Mochi’s eyes were as big as saucers when she arrived. Her white fur was stained gray by the dust of the asphalt.

We believe she had been hit by a car. An x-ray revealed a broken leg but no damage to vital organs, thankfully. She was going to make it. And with immediate treatment, we even saved her leg. After some crucial time healing in a foster home, Mochi found a loving family.

But so many pets are still waiting for their lifeline.

This month, we’re trying to raise enough money to save up to 500 sick and injured pets. And right now, The Kelley and Chris Legacy Fund is matching gifts up to $10,000 through August 31!

If we meet the match, that’s another 133 lives saved and transformed. Can you please help a sick or injured pet with a gift today?

UPDATE: These puppies have all been adopted!

Up for adoption: 1 very cultured litter of puppies 🎨

Last night, Falcon, Osprey, Kestrel, Merlin, Kite, Swainson, and Hawk attended the Madaras Gallery’s Early Bird Kickoff. Our early birds mingled and refined their taste for beautiful art.

Unfortunately, most of these cuddly cuties don’t have a place to start their collections just yet. Why not your home?

Thanks again to Madaras Gallery and friend to HSSA Diana for welcoming all of us into your space. So good to see friends new and old over delicious treats and gorgeous works!

Don't let his grumpy face fool you. Our new (and soon, adoptable) Scottish Fold named Charles is SO excited to see how close we are to saving 500 lives this month. To donate to our Second Chance Fund while every dollar is matched, go to hssaz.org/second-chances. Every dollar saves lives! And there are only a few days left to help.

Have you ever seen a Scottish Fold in person? 😮 Let us know or tag someone who wants to bring this distinguished gentleman home! He will be ready for a loving home early next week. ✨
