AZ Veterinary Dental Specialists

AZ Veterinary Dental Specialists We are proud to provide high-quality specialty oral care in Arizona We provide general and specialized dental care and oral surgery for dog and cats.

At Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists, we are all pet owners, and very much understand it can feel uncomfortable to bring your pet to the vet dentist. At our three Phoenix area locations, our doctors are board-certified specialists in veterinary dentistry and are highly experienced in every aspect of veterinary dentistry including pet dental cleanings, periodontal disease, fractured teeth, oral

cancers, and oral-maxillofacial trauma, and anesthesia. Do Painful Dental Conditions Develop Gradually or Suddenly? Many painful dental conditions develop gradually, and are more common in middle-aged and older pets. As a result, behavior that the owner interprets as “acting grumpy” may be the result of dental pain. Owners often observe that their pet acts “years younger” following dental treatment. What are the Signs of Oral and Dental Diseases in Dogs and Cats:
• Biggest sign - Bad breathe
• Loose teeth or teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar
• Your pet shies away from you when you touch the mouth area
• Drooling or dropping food from the mouth
• Loss of appetite or loss of weight
• Bleeding from the mouth

How Does My Pet Keep His Teeth Healthy? In addition to your pet’s annual dental check-ups, regular pet dental care at home is an important part of maintaining your dog or cat's oral health. As well, we carry a variety of Veterinary Oral Health Council approved dietary products to help you keep your pet's teeth as healthy as possible. Check out little Dunkin and his very unique gemini tooth! What's a gemini tooth, you say? A gemini tooth is a rare and harmless developmental anomaly that happens during development. A tooth will start to split into two teeth, resulting in two crowns with one shared root. "Gemini" is Latin for twins! 👬
The little groove you see should be monitored because it can provide an opportunity for bacteria to collect. Other than a little extra monitoring, a gemini tooth is totally benign and gives little Dunkin some serious bragging rights for being a rare find! 💎🦷

A 12-year-old chihuahua named "Momo" came in to AVDS because there was concern that he had a jaw fracture, but a different issue ended up being the culprit - it was advanced dental disease. Momo was already missing quite a few teeth, and the rest were causing him pain, so Dr. Balke expertly removed them. Little Momo handled everything beautifully and recovered smoothly. This picture shows Momo at his follow-up appointment feeling happy and pain-free. 😍

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇸

At Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists, we are grateful to serve the beloved pets of military families in our community. And today, we are remembering our fallen heroes and recognizing the comfort, loyalty, and strength that pets can bring us during times of loss and remembrance.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 💙

Check out these two redheads - Rowdy and Dr. Balke! 🧡🧡

Rowdy, a dashing 6-month-old Maine C**n kitten, was seen in Gilbert for gingival hyperplasia consistent with juvenile gingivitis. Dr. Balke performed a gingivectomy, and Rowdy’s teeth were also cleaned while he was with us. 🦷✨

He is such a sweet kitten, and an even better patient, and very photogenic to boot!

🧡 Shared with Rowdy's owner's permission.

Our team (Carrie, CVT, VTS-Dentistry, Cheryl and Kelli) spent some time with the great team at VCA Thumb Butte Animal Hospital brushing up on best practices for dental charting and equipment maintenance.

They were such a great group - they were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and made it a really impactful learning session! 📚

Specialty dentistry is unquestionably a TEAM effort.

This week is and we’re celebrating our team!

They're the people behind every phone call, consult, CT scan, procedure, recovery, and follow-up visit. Everyone's role matters, and each person helps create a calmer, more supportive experience for pets and the families that love them. 💕

We’re so grateful for our team, our patients and our veterinary colleagues who trust us with their patients’ oral care.
