A 110-pound black bear fell from a tree onto a hunter in Virginia, turning a bear hunt into a fatal accident.
Lester C. Harvey, 58, was hunting with a group in Lunenburg County when the incident occurred. The hunters had chased the bear up a tree before another hunter sh*t it. As the bear fell, Harvey was standing about 10 feet from the base of the tree.
Other members of the group had moved away, but Harvey was struck by the falling animal and suffered serious injuries. A companion administered first aid before Harvey was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a critical care facility in Richmond. He ultimately d*ed from his injuries.
Harvey’s loss was tragic. The bear, meanwhile, had been chased into a tree while trying to escape. The incident highlights the unpredictable dangers of hunting, where a single moment can have devastating consequences for both people and wildlife.
