Hello again! It’s been a while since our last post, as we were taking a break from posting on social media.

Introducing our lovely new resident, Phoebe. This desert box turtle was picked up on a road in the Tucson area back in 1992. Their intention was to protect her from being hit by a car, though they should have moved her off the road to a safe spot and allowed her to continue being a wild turtle. Desert box turtles are native here.

Phoebe was already a full grown adult when they found her and they had her for 34 years, so she is over 40 years old and could be over 50. She lived indoors in a 50 gallon plastic stock tank and was taken outside into the yard during the day. Here at the sanctuary she will enjoy life outdoors full time with plenty of space to explore, dirt to dig in, and plants to hide under. 😊

My birthday (the founder) is today and if you’d like to make a donation to help support the sanctuary, it would mean a lot! 💚 Pictured is Maisie, a box turtle who previously lived for more than 20 years in a small glass tank indoors. She loves life here in the sunshine and dirt! Venmo: Zelle/ PayPal: [email protected]
