Meet Barney, a 13-year-old girl who has officially entered her cozy old-lady era. She’s a medium-haired beauty who recently had to get a full “naked makeover” after years of matting—so right now she’s rocking the practical, low-maintenance look while her floof grows back.

Barney’s owner passed away, and after losing the person she knew and loved, she’s understandably looking for a soft place to land. She has some old-lady arthritis, so she’s not looking to climb mountains or run marathons. Her ideal day involves good food, comfortable accommodations, and absolutely zero unnecessary exertion.

Speaking of food: Barney LOVES her squeezies. Bring one of those little tubes and suddenly Grandma has places to be! When she’s not enjoying her snacks, she can usually be found burrowing underneath her blankies like a tiny furry retiree who has decided that the outside world is simply too much today.

Barney has lived with other cats and would love a home where she can settle in at her own pace. She’s a senior girl who has lost her person and now needs someone willing to give her the comfort, patience, and security she deserves.

Experts agree: The most humane solution for helping outdoor cats is Trap-Neuter-Return!
NOT trapping and sheltering feral cats.
NOT euthanasia.
NOT letting cats reproduce unchecked.

For those who have followed the saga of Tonka all these years (9, can you believe he is NINE?!), it’s interesting to see that Tank pushes him around, can take over food, nudge him away from an activity, takes over clicker training, Tonka defaults to him quite a bit. Size makes NO DIFFERENCE in the feline world, it is about confidence!

This would be a fantastic time to address that there is NO ALPHA in the feline world! If you learn nothing else from this post or page, please, stop saying “Alpha cat!” It does not exist!

The feline hierarchy is “fluid”. It constantly changes from hour to hour, room to room, and piece of furniture to piece of furniture. For example, one cat may “own” the sofa in the perfect morning sun, another may own it at night during TV watching time.

Cats “time share” resources. Which is why is is imperative you spread out resources in your home! Cats hate “cat rooms”! Very stressful indeed. (What if one cat “owns” the cat room? How do the others get to eliminate?

Now, that being said, when you have just two cats you may notice some distinctions but in a multi-cat household A can be dominant over C, C can be dominant over F, F can be dominant over B and so on, and then the situation’s and circumstances change and it rotates yet again!

So please, no more Alpha cat! And, no more “cat rooms!”

Merlin and Silver are still looking for a home.

This adorable bonded pair would love to find a family that is either experienced or willing to take care of diabetes kitties.

The love they return will be sweeter than any sugar you can taste!!
