Haileywalksdogs and crew hopes you all had a very happy and safe Labor Day ! 💛

We took the day off to enjoy some much-needed family time with our boys 🐾

A morning hike,
a little people watching (their favorite pastime 😂), and some practice with our “tether” skills while mom + dad put in work on our fixer-upper home sweet home 🛠️✨ (a 39’ 2004 Fleetwood Mallard camper that’s slowly but surely becoming ours).

Labor Day 2025 — grateful for rest, play, and new beginnings!!. 🌿

Both dogs got squeaky clean today and lived to tell the tale.

Zero was skeptical (as always), but Fizzy? He’s in it for the post-bath towel massage — his absolute favorite part. 🧼💆‍♂️

We make bath time a positive experience around here — using treats, consent cues, and plenty of praise to help the dogs feel safe and in control.

No wrestling, no forcing — just communication, patience, and a whole lot of snacks.

Because when care routines are built on trust and choice, they become something our dogs can actually enjoy — not just tolerate. 💚

Now we’re clean, calm, and ready to roll in something gross tomorrow. 🐾😎

People are always surprised when I say my cat is leash trained…

but Bean isn’t just any cat — she’s a ✨treat-loving✨, clicker-savvy, adventure-ready girl with special needs and a big personality.

Bean has FHS (Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome), which can make her extra twitchy, anxious, and easily overstimulated.

Her vet (a cat behavior specialist!) actually recommended leash training to help lower her anxiety — and it’s been magic. 🐈‍⬛💖

As a positive reinforcement trainer who used to only work with dogs, I was blown away by how much Bean benefited from this kind of training, too.

Watching her confidence grow and her symptoms mellow out was all the proof I needed.

It even inspired me to dig deeper — and I found out positive reinforcement is used way more widely than people realize… from cats to chickens, rats, horses, sea lions, even elephants. 🐘

Because here’s the truth:

If it has a brain, it can learn with kindness.

☀️ It’s hitting 95° today—which means pavement and asphalt can reach 140–155°F in direct sun.

That’s hot enough to cause serious paw burns in under 60 seconds.

🔥 Important facts:

Dogs don’t sweat like we do—they rely on panting to cool down.

Their bodies are closer to the ground, so they absorb more heat and faster.

Paw pads can burn, blister, and peel just from a quick walk on hot surfaces.

✅ Protect your pup:

Walk early in the morning or after sunset

Stick to grassy, shaded areas

Test the pavement with the back of your hand—if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them

Use dog booties if walks on hot pavement can’t be avoided

Keep water on hand and shorten outdoor time

Heat like this isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s dangerous.

Friendly reminder: social media isn’t real life.

You’re probably seeing the best 20 seconds of someone’s entire day — maybe even their whole week.

That dog that looks like a genius? Probably had zoomies five minutes before.

That “effortless” training clip? Might’ve taken five takes and a few deep breaths.

None of us are living in a constant highlight reel. And if your training doesn’t look Instagram-worthy — good.

That means it’s real.

Messy progress is still progress.

Your dog isn’t behind. You’re not behind.

You’re just doing it off-camera — where the real stuff happens anyway. 💛

No, I don’t offer grooming services… but this weekend I ended up elbow-deep in suds with five soggy dogs and zero regrets 🛁😂

There were bubbles. There was chaos. Someone rolled in dirt immediately after.

But hey—when you love dogs, you do what needs to be done (even if it means getting soaked in the name of love)😎💚
