Benny has had a horrible day. He suddenly fell gravely ill after having minor issues this week. We think he may be septic, as he has signs of an infection in his respiratory tract and also a rapidly falling blood glucose level. To counteract the sepsis, we have him on a continuous drip of dextrose to keep his blood sugar up. Even after 6 hours his blood sugar has only raised from 34 to 43. That means something (like the infection) is consuming his glucose faster than we can replace it.
Benny is currently sedated and medicated to keep him comfortable. We really pray we see his blood sugar continue rising. Sepsis is deadly to all species, but especially to rabbits. They can go from happy and healthy to dead in hours.
Thank you Dr Cadrez, Dr Ramsell, and Heidi of Bees Knees Ultrasonography for helping with him today❤️🫶
His medical care will be quite expensive, and we are accepting donations online to help cover the costs.
