🔥 Hot pavement = burned paws. 🐾

We think about keeping our dogs cool when the temperatures climb, but don’t forget what’s happening under their feet.

Pavement can get MUCH hotter than the air around it. On a 77°F day, asphalt sitting in direct sun can reach around 125°F — and when it’s 87°F outside, pavement temperatures can climb to 143°F. That’s hot enough to cause painful burns very quickly.

🐾 Try the 7-second test:
Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you to comfortably keep it there, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

A few easy ways to protect those paws:
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
• Choose grass or shaded areas whenever possible
• Always check the pavement before heading out
• Watch for limping, excessive paw licking, or suddenly not wanting to walk

And remember — dogs are much closer to that radiating pavement than we are. A walk that feels warm to us can be a whole different experience for them.

Protect the paws that carry them everywhere. ❤️🐾

Cats can be very stoic, and don’t always show their people signs that something is wrong until they are very sick. This is why yearly exams are so important! If you do notice something off with your feline friend, call us to schedule an appointment for your purrfect companion! 🐾
