Joy Lane Bullmastiffs

Joy Lane Bullmastiffs Small business operation raising and selling bullmastiffs for pets and show, Joy Lane Bullmastiffs has been in operation since 1997.

We have shown dogs to AKC Champion and Grand Champion status. Breeding stock is DNA tested and OFA cleared. Joy Lane Bullmastiffs is owned and operated by Suzanne Joy, and is located in Troy, Maine. Joy Lane Bullmastiffs began formal operations as a breeding kennel in July 1997, but our experience with Bullmastiffs began somewhat earlier. Our family acquired our first pet Bullmastiff, Rose, in 199

1 and Boo Boo, our first breeding female, the following year. We began breeding and showing at AKC dog shows in 1994. Our continuing commitment is to raise the best quality Bullmastiffs we can according to AKC standards, combined with health and temperament. Our goal has always been to raise show-quality dogs, and we continue to strive for that goal, but the reality is that many puppies do not meet that high standard and are sold as pets to approved homes.

I have decided to close my breeding business as of December 2022. My latest breeding had not been successful, and Covid restrictions have made it almost impossible to keep my business active.

My thanks to all my puppy parents who continually send me photos of their dogs. I am keeping my last two bullies as my own pets and companions. They will be neutered this winter. At age 72, it is just too difficult to start all over. I look forward to retirement and simply growing old with my bullies.

Best wishes to all of you!

This past year has been a bust for breeding pups. I have tried three matings, but have had no success. I plan to try another breeding in December, but if she doesn't take, then I will have to assume that she is sterile and won't ever have puppies. My bitch is 3 years old, so she is fully mature. But still a mystery as to why she can't conceive. The stud dog is working fine and has sired litters with other dogs, so the problem is with my bitch. Just look for any postings come December 2022 or January 2023.

Due to Covid restrictions, it was impossible to travel outside of Maine, so a breeding was not possible until 2021. The first attempt at mating did not result in pregnancy, so a second breeding is planned for December/January 2021-2022. We will not know until February/March 2022 if that mating is successful. If and when puppies are available, I will post on this site.

As Covid vaccinations increase--I've had mine already--life may get back to some kind of normalcy. Plans are to breed my two-year old bitch Brin in April/May 2021. I will post more information as time passes and we can determine whether she is pregnant or not. It's been a long while since the last litter two years ago, so anyone interested in a puppy should contact me about a puppy application for 2021.

Covid 19 has upended our plans for showing our newest pup as all dog shows in our area have been cancelled for this year. Our female brindle girl will hopefully be bred spring of 2021, so keep checking around April or May 2021 for any updates on available puppies.

At present, I have a two-year-old red fawn stud dog who still needs to be OFA'd hips and elbows. I also have a fawn brindle female who is 15 months. No immediate plans for breeding until they mature, so anyone interested in puppies can check again in 2021 for any planned breedings!

Wishing all our friends and neighbors a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Remember to treat your pets with safe dog food and biscuits and avoid turkey leftovers! A new chew toy is a better choice!

Now that fall has arrived, the dogs and I are preparing for the Maine winter to come. Our last litter GCH Joy Lane's Lucky Lucas of Liambrie x CH Fall Brook's and Boulder Ridge Kizmet have wonderful homes while the two sisters Joy Lane's Brookside Watcher and Joy Lane's Woodland Shadow Brin have had some experience with dog shows and matches this past summer. Spring 2020 they will be ready for their show careers. No immediate plans for any litters in 2020, but possibly 2021!

Wishing all our friends and followers a safe winter and joyful holiday season!

Joy Lane's Woodland Shadow Brin won Best Puppy in Match at PVKC's annual AKC sanctioned match in Bangor on September 28. She has now caught up with her sister Joy Lane's Brookside Watcher (Brook) who won second place at a dog show this past summer. Both girls will start their show careers for AKC champion titles in 2020!

It's been a long while since I've posted any news, but it's also been a busy summer. Joy Lane's Lucky Nature Boy, aka Briant, finished his AKC CH title this summer at 17 months. He'll be concentrating on obedience and carting just for fun and stimulation. After his checks at 2 years old, we shall see what his situation is for breeding. In the meantime, Joy Lane's two nine-month-old female puppies Brook (fawn) and Brin (brindle) are going to weekly handling classes to begin their show careers this coming spring 2020. The six other puppies from this litter have gone to loving local Maine homes and are all doing well.
