Greetings Come on out to Squirrel Farm - not that far from Portland, light years from the usual faded, quasi-'Organic' fare you find at health food stores and co-ops. When we say we do not spray we really mean it - not even the permitted pesticides.
Nothing.
Just the fruit, just the vegetables.
Do the pears have spots? Hell yes hey do!
Is there dirt on the potatoes?
We guarantee it!
You have to see it, taste it, touch it to believe it.

Harvesting harvesting harvesting...and wondering what I am going to do if I have another year like last. No. It wasn't pesticides or climate collapse: It was no buyers. I sold nothing. All my produce was either shared amongst family and friends or it wound up on the compost pile, whence it emerged in true Food Forest form the following year.
Which is amusing and makes a good story. It just does not make good money...or any money at all.
Purists might whine that profit is not what makes the seed germinate. But it is what makes small family farms take root and thrive.
I can't see what this year looks like yet, but once in a while in my nightmares I revisist last year, a place I don't want to see again.

How do you like your Squirrel? And how do you catch a Squirel, more to the point?
Well, you can go to its den, 2325 SE Troutdale Rd., Troutdale, Oregon 97060. You can and see what can take the postal process; apples pears, potatoes, dried beans, popcorn, amaranth seeds (and we are making preserves, sauces, chutney and more), - you get the idea. And you can follow the Squirrel. The farm truck is usually parked in from of KBOO at #220 SE 8th.
You never know
where the Squirrel will go...

But really, it all comes down to the fruit. And since I was up most of last night (And I DO MEAN 'up': ladders and a lot of caffein) working on the what I'm calling 'The Squirrel's Last Stand' - because this year and all the others before it, I tell myself and anyone else who will listen, 'I'm never going to do this again'.
Yet...Here we are.

Nests...Your Nest; is your Second Habitat (The first is your skin and the ways you choose to decorate it. The third, of course, is your external world, your Own Private Outdoors...). The pix are a few of the Nests here at Squirrel Farm (You can see more on the Air B&B website). These are not simply places to pass out; Oh ho ho No; these are places to soak in a soothing pool of dreams.
We do not often get into Habitats 1 & 2 because of that strange, confusing, mutable word, 'farm'. The Internet's vast, unspeakable echo chamber made me do it...
