Important Update for Our Clients ❤️

We want to let our valued clients know that Dr. Baeza is currently dealing with an unforeseen family issue/emergency. At this time, we do not know how long he will be unable to see appointments, and we sincerely apologize for the uncertainty and any inconvenience this may cause.

Our patients and their health mean everything to us. We are actively working to find a veterinarian who can help cover our hours so that we can continue providing the care and attention our patients deserve.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during this unexpected situation. Please know that we are doing everything we can to minimize disruptions and continue being here for you and your pets.

Another unique patient came through our doors today. This spider monkey is receiving a thorough checkup as we prepare for an upcoming spay procedure.

Exotic animals have specialized needs, especially when anesthesia and surgery are involved. Understanding the species, evaluating overall health beforehand, and closely monitoring the patient throughout the entire process are all important parts of providing safe, responsible care.

Whether your family includes a dog, cat, reptile, bird, primate, or something a little more unexpected, you can feel confident bringing them to us. Every species may be different, but the level of care and attention we provide never changes. 💚🐾

Just One More X Ray… We Promise 😂🩻

You think you’re finished and then you hear Dr. Baeza say, “One more time.” 😭

There’s a reason we sometimes need multiple images. Different angles and views can reveal things that might not be visible from a single x ray, helping us get the clearest picture possible before making a diagnosis or treatment plan.

So when you hear “one more,” just know Dr. B is making sure we’ve got everything we need. 😂🐾

A little patience can lead to a lot more answers.

Mystery Solved 🐒🩺

Remember our spider monkey who came in after experiencing vomiting? After running diagnostics, Dr. Baeza was able to get to the bottom of what was causing all that stomach trouble.

The culprit? Cheese. 🧀

Like many mammals, spider monkeys can digest milk when they’re young, but as they mature, their ability to digest lactose decreases. Dairy can then cause significant gastrointestinal upset. In this case, the x rays showed a stomach heavily distended with gas, explaining the discomfort and digestive issues we were seeing.

The good news is that we found the cause, treatment is underway, and a full recovery is expected. 💚

Unfortunately, there is one piece of bad news for our patient…

No matter how much the cheese is loved, cheese privileges have officially been revoked. 😂🧀🚫

A Different Kind of Checkup 🐒🩺

Not every patient walking through our doors has paws!

Today we had a macaque in for a routine health evaluation, including a physical exam and bloodwork to give us a closer look at what’s happening beneath the surface.

Blood testing can tell us a lot about an animal’s overall health, even when everything appears perfectly normal on the outside. With exotic species especially, subtle changes can be easy to miss, making preventative care and routine monitoring an important part of keeping them healthy.

From the familiar to the exotic, every patient deserves thoughtful, thorough care tailored to their species and individual needs. 🐒💚
