As we look ahead to frigid temperatures this weekend, we want to share a few important winter weather safety tips to help keep your pets safe, warm, and comfortable during sub zero conditions. ❄️
🐾 Outdoor pets should always have access to a well insulated shelter that blocks wind, is elevated off the ground, and filled with dry straw for warmth. Make sure their water does not freeze and consider a safe outdoor heating pad if possible.
🐾 If you are concerned about a nearby feral cat, a weather safe container filled with straw can provide critical protection from the cold and give them a secure place to rest.
🐾 During walks, use extra caution on snow and ice. Watch for signs of discomfort in paws and wipe paws after walks to remove ice melt and chemicals that can cause irritation or harm.
🐾 Before starting your car, tap on the hood to alert cats who may be seeking warmth underneath. This simple step can save lives.
🐾 Winter storms can bring emergencies like power outages, so be sure to include your pets in your household emergency plan.
A little preparation goes a long way in keeping pets safe during extreme cold. Thank you for helping us look out for the animals in our community. 💙🐶🐱
