Rubbing a dog’s ears can do more than show affection—it can literally get them “high” on their own feel-good hormones. Research published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science (2020) shows that gentle ear massages trigger a release of endorphins and oxytocin, chemicals that create a natural high while lowering stress and heart rate. This soothing touch activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping dogs enter a deeply relaxed state. It's a scientifically backed way to boost your dog’s mood—and yours too.
