🐾🪨 A BIG SURPRISE HIDING IN THIS BLADDER!
This sweet pup recently came in for straining to urinate, and radiographs showed a BIG surprise! Josie was harboring a LOT of bladder stones!
But what exactly are bladder stones, and why are they a concern?
Bladder stones (uroliths) are mineral formations that develop in the urinary bladder. They can vary in size, shape, and composition, and some pets may develop multiple stones at once.
🐶 Signs of bladder stones can include:
• Frequent urination or repeated attempts to urinate
• Straining or discomfort while urinating
• Blood in the urine
• Urinating in unusual places
• Licking around the urinary opening
• Inability to urinate (a medical emergency 🚨)
Some pets may show minimal symptoms, which is why routine veterinary exams and investigating changes in urinary habits are so important.
Treatment depends on the type, size, and number of stones. Some may be managed with specialized diets, while others require surgical removal, like in this case. The stones can also be analyzed to help determine how to reduce the risk of recurrence.
A huge shoutout to Dr. Dana and our veterinary team for providing excellent care and helping this sweet girl get back on the road to recovery!
