🐾 TPLO Surgery Recovery: What Pet Parents Should Know

If your dog is scheduled for TPLO surgery (or you're just curious about the process), here's what recovery typically looks like:

✅ Same-day return home — TPLO is an outpatient procedure, so most dogs head home that evening to recover in familiar surroundings.

✅ Rest is non-negotiable — Strict crate rest and leash-only walks for 8–12 weeks give the bone time to heal properly. We know it's hard to keep an energetic pup calm, but this step is key to a successful outcome!

✅ Rehab matters — Physical rehabilitation or at-home exercises (as directed by our vet team) help rebuild strength and mobility safely. We provide a step-by-step resource to help guide you along the way.

✅ Checking the progress — Follow-up X-rays at 8–10 weeks confirm the bone is healing as expected.

✅ Back to normal, gradually — Most dogs are back to full activity within 3–4 months.

Throughout recovery, we'll help manage pain and prevent infection with medications and regular rechecks — you won't be navigating this alone. 💙

Questions about TPLO or your dog's recovery plan? Send us a message or give us a call!
