This dog had a spay abort just days prior to this photo. 🧡 Go ahead, clutch your pearls.

Last month, Dolly wandered up to someone's home. They thought she may have had puppies before, but the shape of her belly made us suspect she was pregnant. We scheduled her for a spay, and sure enough, she was pregnant and we proceeded with a spay abort.

Spay aborts are still heavily stigmatized in the rescue world, and it's time we stopped treating them like something shameful.

A spay abort is a spay performed during pregnancy. Under anesthesia, a veterinarian removes the ovaries, uterus, and everything inside. Any fetuses share blood supply with the mother, so they are also anesthetized just like she is. They do not wake up and she does. The procedure carries some additional considerations depending on how far along the pregnancy is, which is why veterinary assessment and appropriate pain management are essential.

That doesn't mean this dog grieves the puppies she never had. Dogs can experience stress, hormonal changes, and maternal behaviors, but they don't understand pregnancy and motherhood the way humans do. For them, it's a biological process. We shouldn't automatically project our own feelings of loss onto them.

This isn't our first spay abort, and we regret none of them. 😉

It's not a secret that there are already far too many dogs without homes. We receive requests for help every. single. day, and every day, we have to say no to dogs we cannot take in. We beg people to adopt puppies and wonderful adult dogs sit in foster care for months or years.

Could we have allowed her to give birth? Yes. But that would mean bringing another litter into an overcrowded system where homes, foster placements, and resources are already limited. Those puppies would take those away from dogs already in this world.

We don't make these decisions carelessly. We make them because we care about the dogs already here and the ones we haven't been able to save yet. Spay aborts aren't about being cruel. They're about making difficult, responsible decisions in an animal welfare crisis.

If you have a pregnant pet that you need help spaying, message us! We will help.

Kiki is back.

We're not a rescue that believes in publicly shaming people, but we ARE a rescue that believes in education, accountability, and honest conversations about responsible pet ownership.

Kiki's family initially asked to return her because, between the kids' sports, late-night Taekwondo, work schedules, and constant travel, they felt she wasn't getting the time she deserved. They told us she was a wonderful dog and there was nothing wrong with her. We understood, and we agreed to take her back.

As we've been sharing, adoptions have stalled, and our foster homes are full. It took us TWO WEEKS to find an available foster and coordinate transportation for Kiki. We were scheduled to pick her up Saturday.

Friday evening, we received an email saying the family's stepson had decided he wanted Kiki and would take responsibility for her. Apparently, the situation had taught the kids a lesson about pet ownership, so they no longer needed to return her.

Three hours later, we received another email asking us to disregard that message because they still wanted to return her.

And this is where we need to talk about something important.

✨‼️ A dog is not a bargaining chip, a teaching tool, or a way to test whether your child is ready for responsibility. ✨‼️

YOU are the adult. The adult adopts the dog. Children can absolutely participate in caring for a pet, but the ultimate responsibility belongs to the adults. Kids get busy, schedules change, and extracurricular activities pile up. Your dog's future shouldn't depend on whether your child decides they want to step up this week.

When you contact a rescue to return a dog, we don't just open a door and move on. We coordinate fosters, arrange transportation, communicate with volunteers, and shuffle limited resources to make it happen. Those two weeks weren't spent doing nothing. They were spent trying to find a safe place for Kiki in a rescue community where everyone is already full.

We're not asking people to feel guilty for circumstances changing. Sometimes returns are necessary, and that's why we have a return policy. But please don't treat a living animal or the rescue helping them as something you can change your mind about on a whim. Our time matters. Our fosters' time matters. And the resources we need to save the next dog matter.

We aren't sharing this to invite anyone to attack Kiki's family. That's not what we're about. We're sharing it because these are conversations people need to have BEFORE bringing an animal home.

Please think beyond how cute a puppy is or how much your children want a dog. Think about your work schedule, your travel plans, your finances, your family's commitments, and what happens when life gets busy. Think about the fact that this animal will depend on you for years, even when your calendar is full and your priorities change.

And if you genuinely cannot provide what your pet needs anymore, please reach out to your rescue. We will work with you. That's what we're here for. But please understand that returning an animal is not an effortless process, especially when rescues everywhere are full and adoption applications have slowed to a crawl.

Please share Kiki's story and check out our available dogs. Every adoption opens space for another dog in need, and right now, we desperately need those spaces. 🙏🏻🧡

FERN’S FIRST SURGERY IS DONE! 🧡 And we’re getting closer to our fundraising goal!

Fern had her first FHO surgery yesterday, and it went well! Dr. Booth operated on her left hip first because it had the worst degenerative changes. Fern is only ONE YEAR OLD, and her hip was already that badly damaged. 😭

The good news is that she’s doing well, and Dr. Booth said we can look at doing her other hip in about a month, depending on Fern’s recovery.

She looks great overall, and we’re so grateful to Dr. Booth and the veterinary team for giving Fern a chance at a more comfortable life. She has a laser treatment scheduled for next week, and her stitches should come out the following week.

Now, we still need your help to get her through this.

🧡 Our goal is $2,600 for both surgeries, and we’ve raised $1,815 so far! We have $785 left to go.

One hip down, one hip to go, and a whole lot of puppyhood ahead of her. Fern deserves the chance to run and play without pain, and we’re determined to give her that opportunity.

Can you help us finish funding her medical care? Every donation helps, and sharing this post helps us reach people who might be able to contribute. 🧡

Rayne is just 5 months old, which means she should be growing up in a home of her own. She’s adorable, social, smart, affectionate, and truly the full puppy package.

She loves other dogs of all sizes, loves her people, and may be happiest when she’s curled up in your lap getting belly rubs. She’s also a little sponge when it comes to learning and is making great progress with crate training, leash skills, and potty training.

And those steel gray eyes? They make it pretty hard to say no. ❤️

Rayne is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to trade her foster home for a family who will love watching her grow.

She’s been waiting for someone to choose her. Could that someone be you?

We’re going to be transparent, because we think it’s important for people to understand what rescue actually looks like behind the cute photos and happy adoption announcements. We haven't had an adoption in over two weeks. Meanwhile, we get multiple requests to take in dogs every single day.

Every day, we hear about dogs who need somewhere to go. Dogs in shelters, dogs at risk, and dogs whose families can no longer care for them. We want to help as many as we can, but we’re a foster based rescue, which means our capacity depends on having available foster homes. And right now, our foster homes are occupied by dogs who are still waiting for their own families.

We can't keep taking in dogs without adoptions creating space. As much as we wish we could, we cannot save everyone if the dogs already in our care aren't moving forward into their next chapters. We're at a standstill, and we need your help getting our dogs seen. Petfinder and AdoptaPet views are way down; our dogs have only gotten

A “Mini Cavapoo” puppy sold for $20,000 at a charity benefit this weekend. Meanwhile, we’re struggling to raise $2,600 to give a puppy a chance at a pain-free life.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Fern was found in the middle of the road, covered in dried f***s, before we rescued her from the county shelter in August. We noticed something wasn’t right with her back legs, so we asked our vet to take hip radiographs while she was under sedation for her spay.

Our vet’s response when I sent her the images? “Oh sh*t!!”

Fern has SEVERE bilateral hip dysplasia. Her hip sockets are essentially nonexistent, and our veterinary team believes this is likely a congenital defect, potentially caused by irresponsible breeding. She’s only 10 months old.

Fern needs TWO FHO surgeries to give her a chance at a comfortable, functional life. Without them, she will continue living with pain. With them, she can have a chance to run, play, and experience the puppyhood she deserves.

Both surgeries will cost approximately $2,600.

🧡 We’ve raised $1,525, and we still need $1,075!

People are spending $20,000 on designer puppies while small rescues like ours struggle to raise a fraction of that to treat the dogs left behind by irresponsible breeding. Whether Fern’s condition was accidental or intentional, she is the one paying the price, and she deserves the chance to live a pain-free life.

Can you help us get Fern across the finish line? Every $5, $10, or $25 donation brings us closer to getting her the care she needs. If you can’t donate, please SHARE this post. 🧡

Our hospice guy Re*****on came down with a UTI this week. Peeing numerous times with some blood in his urine.

We’ve asked him to give feedback on the following:

Diapers = -10/100
Riding in the car to the vet = 75/100
Sitting on the floor at the vet = 0/100
Putting HIMSELF in a chair at the vet = 90/100
Resting under covers with a head on the pillow and medicated = 1000/100

We’re so thankful for Travelers Rest Animal Hospital for always taking the best care of our dogs. 🧡

This man is about his comfort 🙌

😡😡😡 We saw this week that mad reactions on posts boost the algorithm and puts posts in front of more people. Facebook lovveess drama! Let's try to get Frampton in front of more people! Please mad react this post! Let's all be mad that he's still looking for a home.

Frampton has been waiting for a home for OVER A YEAR. Yes, you read that right. This 6–7 year old, 69lb American Staffordshire Terrier mix has been with us over a year and somehow his person still hasn’t found him.

Frampton is a mellow, easygoing guy who doesn’t need a busy lifestyle to be happy. He loves lounging around the house, leisurely sniffy walks, playing with his toys, and curling up with his people for head rubs and butt scratches. He does get a little wild when his people come home because he simply cannot contain his excitement! He may jump up to say hello, but he’s been working on his manners and has made great progress.

He LOVES people and thinks everyone he meets should pet him. Home Depot, Tractor Supply, anywhere with people? Sign him up. He is wonderful with children when meeting them, but the constant chaotic energy of young children is too overwhelming for him, so he would do best with teenagers and older.
Frampton is dog friendly and has lived successfully with other dogs. Cats, however, are a hard no. He also enjoys chasing squirrels and other critters, although he’s easy to redirect on walks. He’s definitely more of a slow-and-steady, stop-and-sniff kind of guy than a marathon walker.

He’s an excellent car rider, loves sticking his head toward the open window, and has mastered the art of getting a pup cup through the drive-thru. His favorite trick is licking the treat and then stealing the cup to finish it in the backseat. 😂
He does have storm and fireworks anxiety and wants his people close when he’s scared. Rain and wet grass are also his sworn enemies. 🌧️

Food is absolutely his love language, and he will happily eat fruits and vegetables… or your pizza if you leave it within reach. He’s also an excellent sleeper and is usually the last dog ready to get up in the morning.

Frampton is not a puppy. He isn’t looking for a life of nonstop adventure. He’s just a big-hearted, affectionate, goofy guy who wants to be loved, included, cuddled, and fed.

After more than a YEAR of waiting, we really think it’s his turn. 🧡

We’re posting Indie AGAIN.

Indie went to Paws on the Pad, a splash pad for dogs, over the weekend and did what Indie does best: being adorable, making friends, soaking up attention, and proving yet again that she is an absolute blast of a dog.

And then she went home… still waiting for her family. 🥺

Indie is about 2 years old, around 40 lbs, dog-friendly, house trained, crate trained, and READY for a life full of adventure. She’s the kind of dog who hears “Want to go?” and is already halfway to the car.

Hiking? Yep.
Dog-friendly patio? Absolutely.
Adventure? WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Couch cuddles afterward? She’s in.

She’s goofy, playful, smart, and loves having other dogs around. She’s been waiting MORE THAN A YEAR for someone to decide that she’s their girl, and we truly cannot understand how her person hasn’t found her yet.

Indie does need an experienced adopter who understands that she can be a flight risk when nervous. She’s still working on her leash manners, but walks great on a Herm Sprenger prong collar. Otherwise, a flat collar irritates her throat. She hasn’t been around small children. Cat compatibility depends on the cat and experience level of the handler. She does great with one cat in her foster home, but has to be watched around the kitten. She needs someone willing to give her structure and grace.

We just need someone to finally see what we’ve been seeing for the past year: Indie is SPECIAL. She is FUN. ❤️

So here we are, posting her AGAIN. Sharing her AGAIN. Hoping that THIS time, the right person sees her.

Could that person be you? Or maybe you know them?
