Happy National Black Cat Appreciation Day! 🐾🐈‍⬛🖤

Black cats make absolutely wonderful companions, but they unfortunately face some challenges when looking for their forever homes.

Research highlights a phenomenon sometimes called "Black Cat Bias," showing that black cats experience the lowest adoption rates in shelters. Historically, much of this hesitation stems from outdated superstitions associating them with bad luck.

It’s almost that time of year again! If your pet is fearful of fireworks PLEASE consider asking your vet about anxiolytics for the 4th of July celebration. So many of us live in neighborhoods where the display starts the week before and extends through the week after the 4th, it's difficult to think about the anxiety level some animals experience for that length of time!

We will also be closed this Saturday, July 4th and will reopen on Monday, July 6th at 8:00am.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth as a day honoring the end of slavery in the United States and a time to reflect on freedom and the ongoing pursuit of equity.

As we celebrate, it is also important to recognize the work that still needs to be done within our own profession. Veterinary medicine remains one of the least diverse fields in the country with Black professionals making up less than 2% of our workforce. We believe that building a stronger, more compassionate future means actively advocating for a more inclusive field.

We encourage our community to pause, reflect on the history of Juneteenth, and recognize the importance of representation. Join us in advocating for a more inclusive future in veterinary medicine because every pet and pet parent deserves to be seen, heard, and supported by a profession that reflects the beautiful diversity of our world. ❤️💛💚🐾
