Not every dog is the same. Not every owner is the same. Unfortunately, not all trainers are the same.
I don’t mind calling out corporate companies because it’s contractually written what they can and can’t do, it’s not privately owned like I am.
Petsmart. Today I had a phone call (which this line I’ve hear a hundred times over) of “my dog wasn’t paying attention, and all she said was give my dog a higher value treat and suddenly my dog is just supposed to listen”
It’s frustrating when a company or even a privately owner training business sits in a One Size Fits All mindset. It doesn’t work. What happens when the dog doesn’t take food? Has no motivation? Doesn’t like toys? When their nervous system hasn’t been regulated so they lost their appetite? Nothing. They get tossed aside.
Whether it’s me, or where it’s a different trainer because there are so many incredible ones, make sure they listen to you. Make sure they understand what’s going on and doesn’t look at your dog as just another “broken statistic”.
To the owners going through this, there’s nothing wrong with you. You’re trying your best. Just don’t be afraid to try something new if you need ❤️
