Everyone knows the primary dog breed registry.
Some rely on it to ensure that they are getting a pure-bred dog, or more importantly, a pet that is genetically healthy.
The AKC does not do that at all!
Technically, all it does is trace the paperwork through an honor system of breeders, who ‘say’ which dogs mated.
That registry has a long history, and though that history, there likely has been lots of contamination of mating without anyone keeping it in check.
The AKC does have optional DNA testing. The big caveat though, is that their test does NOT test for purity of breed, or even for genetic health issues. All it tests for is to verify parentage of specific individuals, or litters.

It’s time for a NEW REGISTRY!

Geneticpetregisty.org is the new registry that is dedicated to the documentation of genetic characteristics of all pets and all breeds of pets.
We specialize in registering animals that have been DNA tested. We realize that not all owners want to spend that money, so we also provide the ability to ‘document’ pets that haven’t been DNA tested. These documented pets are categorized as such and data is kept separate from the pets that are registered with DNA test results.
