💚 Canary Wing Parakeets 💚

They can’t wait to meet you! 🎤🐻🐰🐤🦊
Meet our absolutely adorable baby Canary Wing Parakeets also known as Bee Bee Parrots!

Canary Wing Parakeets are a small sized parrot with huge personalities! These cuties act like a macaw trapped inside a small body. Found in South America, Bee Bees are found in large flocks foraging and flying across the forests. Even though these babies are small they require lots of care including a large cage, lots of enrichment and being handled daily.

Additionally, Bee Bees tend to love trying new foods so we definitely encourage giving them fresh fruits and vegetables such as apples, bananas, broccoli and other bird safe foods.

Want to meet our four curious babies? We nicknamed these guys after the four main characters from Five Nights at Freddy’s! Stop in to meet these cuties and see if they fit your flock 🦜💚

💛 Keel-Billed Toucan 💛

Talk about a bird you don’t see every day! We are SO excited to have this adorable baby Keel-billed Toucan at PBS and we can confidently say this is one of the coolest birds we’ve ever had come into the store!

With a huge colorful bill, bright plumage and curious personality this little toucan is truly one of a kind! We are currently waiting for DNA results to find out if this baby is a boy or girl! So far this adorable baby has been exploring the store and getting a taste of his food.

And speaking of food…this guy has quite the menu. Toucans naturally enjoy a diet that is heavily based around fresh fruits, but they also need a nutritionally balanced low-iron pellet specifically formulated for toucans and softbills. Their diet needs to be carefully managed because toucans are particularly sensitive to excessive iron.
Toucans along with other softbills need a HUGE cage as they are incredibly active and constantly on the go! We will be selective when choosing a home for this baby, as it is incredibly important that their new family is prepared and committed to providing the proper care, diet, and environment they need to thrive.

Stop in to meet this unique and stunning baby! 💛

Meet Leo a beautiful female Canary Wing Parakeet💚

At 11 years old, Leo may be an older lady but she certainly hasn’t lost her spice! Leo was surrendered to PBS almost three years ago and was originally going to be adopted out to any customers who were interested. But after spending time at the store, Leo had other plans. She quickly gravitated toward Ari and made it very clear that Ari was HER person—so much so that she would try to attack anyone else who attempted to touch her! Before long, Ari knew Leo belonged with her, and the two became inseparable.

Leo absolutely adores her mom and will let Ari do just about anything with her. She’s incredibly protective of Ari and definitely likes things done her way… and if you disagree, she’ll happily let you know with a little bite! She also seems to have a very personal vendetta against Rachel and will puff up every single feather when she sees her and try to bite her. Nobody knows exactly why Leo hates Rachel, but Leo has clearly made up her mind!

Leo may be a small bird, but she acts like a macaw! She loves eating big chunks of food that are much larger than anything her size would suggest, especially when she can hold her own. These days, Leo is still just as sassy as ever and has a serious love for cashews. She loves to fly and can usually be found hanging out on top of her cage or cuddled up with Ari for hours. Despite her feisty attitude, Leo has a huge heart for the person she loves, and the bond she shares with Ari is truly something special.

A PBS Ambassador is more than just a bird who visits our store—they’re a beloved part of our PBS family who help represent the love, care, and community that makes Paterson Bird Store so special.

Meet Mookie a charming little Senegal Parrot! 🦜💚

He’s 24 years old and absolutely full of personality! Mookie’s story with PBS began when his original owner brought him home from our store as a baby. Sadly, she later became terminally ill, but before she passed, she made it known that she wanted one of our staff members to take Mookie into their home. When the time came, we gave Mookie the choice and he made it very clear who he wanted. He kept coming to Rachel for food, head scratches, and attention, and at the time, Rachel was the only person he would really vocalize for.

Today, Mookie is still every bit as quirky as ever! He loves having his head scratched, will throw his food around just to get attention, and likes to hide food in his feathers for later. He’s also quite proficient at producing a Bronx cheer, much to his mom Rachel’s pride! 👏
One thing Mookie absolutely cannot stand, though, is shiny objects he hates them with a passion.

From being a baby at PBS to becoming a beloved member of Rachel’s family, Mookie’s story is a beautiful reminder of the special bonds birds can form with their people. After 24 years, he’s still making us laugh, keeping Rachel on her toes, and being the wonderfully goofy Mookie that we all know and love. ❤️

Romeo has quite the personality and definitely knows what he likes. He absolutely LOVES chicken and fish, and his absolute favorite treat being Ladyfinger Cookies. At his home, you can usually find him snuggled up underneath his owner’s desk, happily keeping him company.

Over the years, Romeo has also become quite the local celebrity! He’s been to many Totowa events, including the Totowa Halloween Parade, where he’s always ready to make an appearance with his mom.

After 15+ years of visits, we’ve watched Romeo become a familiar and much loved face around PBS. We’re so lucky to have been a part of his life for all these years, and we can’t wait to see what adventures are still ahead for our favorite guy!

Georgie’s Journey 🦜💙

A year ago, Georgie, our beautiful Blue-Headed Pionus, came to Paterson Bird Store in need of some much-deserved TLC. After laying 13 eggs, the toll on her health was clear. Coming from a quiet, loving home, it took some time for Georgie to settle in to the store and feel comfortable in her new surroundings with her new friends.

With lots of love, patience, and time, Georgie slowly began to blossom. Her feathers grew back, her confidence soared, and, most importantly, her sweet little personality finally began to shine through. Watching her transform over the past year has been incredibly rewarding—and truly a team effort from everyone here at PBS.

Knowing that Georgie was pushing her mid-20s, we began thinking about what would give her the best chance at a long, happy, and comfortable life. We ultimately decided that the best thing for Georgie girl would be to spend her golden years in a loving home where she could receive all the individual care, attention, and companionship she deserves.

We are so incredibly grateful to be able to lean on the greater PBS family to reach this end — Georgie was welcomed with open arms into her new home this week. We’re thrilled to share that she has already made herself right at home and is settling in wonderfully! 🥹💙

While we’ll certainly miss seeing her here at PBS, our hearts are so full knowing that Georgie is exactly where she belongs.

Thank you to everyone who has followed Georgie’s journey, cheered her on, and watched her grow alongside us.

We love you, Georgie! We’re so happy you found your forever home. ❤️🦜

💗 Gouldian Finches 💗

One of the most beautiful and incredible finch species…Meet our Gouldian Finches!
Here at PBS we carry a wide selection of finches but by far our favorite and most popular species are the Gouldian Finch. Known for their vibrant colors and amazing personalities these little birds are extremely popular in the bird world and can even be found in bird expos where they are displayed for their beauty.

As seen in our photos, these are two male Gouldians as the males have a much brighter plumage whereas the females are duller in color. Gouldians are also great with other docile finches such as Societies, Owls and Waxbills.

Stop by to see our huge selection of finches and other birds! 🦜♥️
