1. Enhanced Enrichment & Stress Reduction
Dogs experience the world through their noses. A grass lawn is a “sensory buffet” of shifting scents, soil, and textures. This his mental stimulation can significantly reduce stress and anxiety in dogs away from home. (You’ll see in a lot of my pictures the dogs sniff most of the day away)
2. Impact Absorption for Joints
Natural soil has a “give” that synthetic backing and concrete sub-bases often lack. For older dogs or high-energy breeds prone to CCL (ACL) tears, the natural cushioning of soft earth and grass is much more forgiving on their joints.
3. Artificial turf can reach temperatures over 150 degrees in direct sunlight, grass is a nice place to lay down and get cool after play.
4. Natural Odor Management
Synthetic turf acts like a carpet; if not deep-cleaned daily with specialized enzymes, it traps uric acid and develops a “kennel smell.” Natural grass lives in a complex ecosystem of soil microbes that actively break down organic waste.
5. No microplastics
6. Mud is fun for them but not for me
