Meet Sylvi!

She's a little sweet, a little shy, and a lot of sass- in the best way and at the most comedic times.

Sylvi began training with us due to generalized fear of the world when separated from the other dogs in the home.

When we began training, Sylvi would hide from Sarah and anyone else in the vicinity, bark with hackles up at unfamiliar dogs, and walk low to the ground and startle at any noise/movement. Her physical threshold was pretty far and she was easily triggered past her emotional threshold.

This last week, she approached Sarah for treats and remained in that space.
She was clicked in and willing to work and appropriately and confidently communicating when she was becoming overstimulated and needed a brain break.
We worked through many triggers and she passed by unfamiliar people and dogs without reacting, eventhough she thought about it a time or two.

She definitely side-eyed Sarah when she didn't appreciate some "games" we were trying to play and provided multiple huffs and sighs to communicate her displeasure.
She settled into a mostly-relaxed down and was observing the world carefree- which was amazing to be a part of.

We love working with her and her mom, and we're so proud of their progress so far.

Not all behavior changes are just “training issues.” 🐕
If your dog suddenly starts barking more, acting restless, or showing unusual habits, it could be linked to discomfort, anxiety, or even an underlying medical condition.

Pain, hormonal changes, or neurological issues can sometimes show up as behavior changes before anything else. That’s why it’s important not to ignore patterns that feel different.

When behavior changes suddenly, a veterinary check can help rule out health concerns first.

Understand what your dog is really trying to tell you.

Always excited to catch up with Teddy when they are in town from PA!

We focused on loose-leash walking, proper greetings with children, and reworking on-leash expectations when presented with another dog (Teddy wants to play with all the dogs- even if, sometimes, they don't want to play with him).
Sometimes the best thing to do with a dog just coming into maturity, is go back and rework the basics! Refreshers are great throughout the dogs life.

Our older dogs really click in when we start easy and work our way up to more difficult asks.

How often do you get back to basics? ... with or without your dog.

Had a great time catching up with Scarlett recently!

Scarlett has a high drive toward birds and reactivity toward unfamiliar people and dogs when over threshold.

We worked on "place" outside, as well as encouraging engagement and disengagement with triggers through play.
We helped them realize what her disregulation ladder looks like so we can help them learn when space and/or intervention is needed.

We love how much time, effort, and patience these two have put into their communication and training.

Scarlett started off highly reactive from a long distance. It has been an emotional journey at times but she has made friends with two of our resident dogs and our youngest human trainer helper, been able to regulate in multiple group classes, and has significantly lowered her threshold and increased her frustration tolerance- and she's still just a pup.

Great job! 👏👏

HEADS UP (and down) EVERYONE! It's fledgling/branching (and other baby animals) time. Be aware when letting your pups out to play that juvenile owls are learning to fly and may be on the ground. Leave them be and they'll get back up. The parents are usually around keeping tabs and feeding their young.
