September is recognized as Animal Pain Awareness Month, a critical period for acknowledging, preventing, and effectively managing animal pain. It is essential to educate pet owners and animal-care professionals that animals often conceal signs of pain and discomfort. Subtle changes, such as decreased activity, reluctance to move, alterations in appetite, unusual vocalization, aggression, hiding, or altered grooming habits, can be vital indicators.

Here are some fun facts about our favorite orange feline friends:
😼 Mostly Male: Because the gene for orange coloring is sex-linked on the X chromosome, male cats (XY) only need one copy of the gene to be orange. Female cats (XX) need two copies to make them entirely orange, making female orange cats much rarer at around 20%
😺 Always a tabby: there is no such thing as a solid orange cat. Every orange cat carries the tabby pattern due to how the pigment pheomelanin is deposited in the hair shaft, even if the stripes are faint.
😽 Freckles (medically called Lentigo): As they age, many orange cats develop harmless little black spots or freckles on their nose, or lips.
😻 The "M" Marking: Like all tabby cats, orange tabbies feature a distinct "M" shape marking on their foreheads.

We would love to see some photos of your orange feline friends!
