Happy World Animal Day, celebrated every year on October 4th, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology.

🐶 Today is all about the animals. World Animal Day recognizes pets, farm animals, wildlife, marine life, and other animals—not just endangered species.

📅 It began in the 1920s. The first World Animal Day was organized in 1925 in Berlin, Germany, by Heinrich Zimmermann, a writer and animal-protection advocate.

🐘 It has become a worldwide event. Animal shelters, conservation groups, schools, zoos, and animal lovers in many countries mark the day with educational events, fundraisers, adoption activities, and campaigns.

🦁 The goal goes beyond celebrating animals. World Animal Day also promotes awareness of animal welfare and responsible treatment of animals.

🐱 It’s a great day for an animal-themed good deed. People might volunteer at a shelter, donate to an animal charity, help wildlife, or simply learn more about an animal species.

🐾 Celebrating two special days with some extra puppy love! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating National Firefighter Pup Day and National Black Dog Day—a perfect reminder that courage, loyalty, and unconditional love come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. 🐕‍🦺❤️

Here’s to the brave pups who stand beside our firefighters, the black dogs who bring so much joy to their families, and every four-legged hero who makes our world a little brighter.

🐾 Thank you to the pups who protect, comfort, serve, and love us every day!

September is National Service Dog Month. Today, we recognize the important work service dogs do and the people who train and care for them.

Here are some key differences between a service dog and an emotional support dog.

Service Dog: In the U.S., a service dog is generally not simply a pet or an emotional-support animal. The dog is trained to perform tasks directly related to a person's disabilities.
For example a service dog might:
🐕 Guide someone who is blind.
🐕 Alert someone who is deaf to important sounds.
🐕 Help a person with mobility difficulties.
🐕 Alert someone to certain medical conditions, such as an oncoming seizure.
🐕 Perform a specific task for someone with psychiatric disability.

Emotional-Support Dog: Is a dog that provides comfort and emotional support to a person with a mental or emotional health condition.
Unlike a service dog, an emotional support dog generally does not need to be trained to perform specific tasks related to a disability. Its therapeutic benefit primarily comes from its presence, companionship and ability to provide comfort.

It's National Dog Week! Meaning it's a great excuse to make the week all about the dogs- your own, shelter dogs, and dogs in your community.

Here are some fun ideas:

🦴 Host a doggy playdate — Invite friends and their dogs for treats, games, and photos.

🐾 Take a special adventure — Try a new dog-friendly park, hiking trail, or walking route.

🎁 Spoil your pup — Get a new toy, make dog-safe treats, or set up a cozy “spa day.”

📸 Have a dog photo day — Take silly portraits or recreate old puppy pictures.

🏠 Help a shelter — Donate food, blankets, toys, or money to a local animal shelter or rescue.

🚶 Volunteer — If possible, spend time walking or socializing shelter dogs.

❤️ Support a senior dog — Donate specifically toward older dogs or foster one for a day/week.

🎉 Throw a dog party — Dog-safe cake, decorations, games, and a “best trick” contest.

🐕 Teach a new trick — Keep training sessions short and positive, with plenty of rewards.

🌳 Have a dog-friendly picnic — Bring water, shade, treats, and a blanket for a relaxed outing.

💌 Celebrate a dog who’s passed away — Share favorite memories or photos and donate in their honor.

📱 Spread the word — Post photos and encourage friends to adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate.
