A little professional development behind the scenes 🩺🐾

Some of our team recently spent a few days at Fetch Kansas City, learning from veterinary professionals from across the country.

From emergency medicine and surgery to pain management, feline medicine, new technology, and practical skills, conferences like this give our team the opportunity to keep learning, bring new ideas back to the EAC, and find a little sense of renewal through the camaraderie of so many of our peers.

Because veterinary medicine never stops evolving - and neither do we. ❤️

And yes, we do apologize for the disruption to our weekly Sunday Funnies due to our conference attendance. We promise the comics will return. 😅🐾

😄 Sunday Funnies

Nothing says “good morning” quite like being immediately wrapped in 15 feet of retractable leash. 😂

A small veterinary-team plea: please keep those leashes short in the clinic. Your dog - and your veterinary team - will thank you.

❤️ ER Reflections - Episode 2

Urinary blockages are something we see far too often in the ER - but many cat owners have never heard of them until it happens to their own cat.

They’re treatable, but typically require immediate medical attention, and the cost of emergency treatment can be overwhelming.

This week, we had to say goodbye to several young cats because treatment wasn’t financially possible or symptoms were caught too late. Those are the cases that stay with us.

So this week, we’re talking about blocked cats - what to watch for, why it’s an emergency, and what you can do to help your cat. ❤️

LOST DOG
A good Samaritan brought in a young black and white border collie mix last night - male and intact. There was no microchip scanned and they were found near the intersection of SW Topeka Blvd & SW 29th St. Unfortunately due to the severity of his condition, the decision was made to humanely euthanize. If you think this is your dog, please give us a call during business hours at 785-272-2926.

🚪Behind the ER Door - Episode 2

Sometimes helping our community means stepping outside our usual ER doors.

This week, our team donated our time and skills to Osage Friends For Felines TNR to help spay and neuter 10 community cats as part of their TNR efforts.

TNR isn't a service we normally offer to the public or to TNR organizations, but one of our managers volunteers with Osage Friends For Felines TNR - and when we had the opportunity to help, our team was happy to pitch in.

We also want to give a huge thank-you to our two veterinary students, who came in to help with the day after spending the summer with us. They're both headed back to school this month to begin their final year, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they contributed to EAC this summer. 💜

Emergency medicine is what we do every day, but caring for our community can take many forms.

We're grateful we could be part of this one. 🐾

This past weekend brought a lot of difficult euthanasias, and a lot of emotion for our team.

Saying goodbye is never easy — for pet parents or for the people caring for them. We may go back to work, but that doesn’t mean we stop feeling the loss.

We put together this week’s ER Explained to talk about what euthanasia can mean for both sides of the table, and to share a few resources for anyone who may need them. 💗

😄 Sunday Funnies

In honor of yesterday’s International Cat Day, we’re keeping things feline-forward for this week’s Sunday Funny. 🐱🧶

But no joke - keep yarn, string, ribbon, and other linear objects away from your cats. If swallowed, they can cause serious and potentially life-threatening intestinal injuries.

Enjoy the funny. Just don’t let your cat join the club. 😹
