From feeling pretty ruff ➡️ back to her happy self in just a few days! 🥰😁

Sweet Kanga came to see us after throwing up a sock. 🧦 She was acting lethargic, not wanting to eat, and continuing to vomit. The first photo is Kanga waiting for her initial appointment, definitely not feeling like herself. 💔🥺

After some diagnostic testing, Kanga was found to have a gastrointestinal obstruction and needed surgery to remove it. Thankfully, everything went well — and just a few days later, her family sent us the second photo of her back home, smiling and looking MUCH more like herself! 🥰🎉

She may be rocking a “designer pant leg” and a stylish "belly zipper" for a little while, but we are so happy to see this sweet girl feeling better. 💙

We love a good Kanga comeback! 🐶✨

Gold stars all around for the pet parents who help us help their pets! ⭐🐾

A little preparation can make a BIG difference at your pet’s veterinary visit. Some of our favorite “gold star” pet parent habits for vet visits include:

⭐ Bringing an up-to-date medication list
⭐ Keeping your pet’s microchip information current
⭐ Transporting cats safely in a secured carrier and keeping pups on non-retractable leashes
⭐ Taking photos or videos of unusual symptoms at home
⭐ Staying on top of flea & tick prevention
⭐ Asking questions when something about your pet’s health doesn’t seem quite right or confusing

Your pet can’t always tell us what’s been happening at home, so the information you bring to their vet appointment can be incredibly helpful when we’re trying to piece together what’s going on. 💙

What would YOU add to our pet parent gold star list? 👇🐶🐱

🚨 Friday PSA from Dr. Tanalski and her fluffy friend, Ferguson! The first of the month is almost here—don’t forget your pet’s monthly preventatives! 🗓️🐾

We know applying topical medications at home can sometimes be tricky, so here’s a quick video to help! Part the fur behind your pet’s neck or between their shoulder blades, then apply the medication directly to the skin—not on top of the fur. This simple step helps ensure your pet gets the protection they need!

And remember: Fall in WNY doesn’t mean fleas and ticks disappear. Ticks can remain active whenever temperatures are above freezing, while fleas can survive year-round indoors—so consistent protection is still important! 🍂

Is your pet’s monthly reminder set? 👀

Luna was here to see Dr. Tanalski and was such a sweet girl for her visit 🐶💙

While Dr. Tanalski checked her teeth and gums, Luna made the cutest little silly face… so of course Dr. Tanalski had to match her energy 😂🦷

We’re not sure who made the better face, but we do know these two make a pretty adorable team 🥰💙

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday from Nigel!

Nigel was in for the works and may have taken full advantage of our drop-off appointments! 🐱💙

While he spent a few hours in his little home away from home, our team got everything checked off — his annual exam, vaccines, nail trim, annual bloodwork, and even specialty blood panels since Nigel is one of our registered blood donors!🩸✨

Of course, a full day of medical care also comes with the important stuff… like Churus and some extra "medical-grade" cuddles 😉🫶

Nigel handled his busy day like a pro, and we were more than happy to keep him company while he hung out with us waiting for his mama to get out of work! 💪

Did you know some diabetic cats may have an alternative to insulin injections? 💉😺

This is Arcadia with her mom, vet tech Heather! Arcadia was diagnosed with diabetes last year and she is happily managed with Bexacat, a once-daily oral medication. She stopped by recently for a refill and repeat bloodwork to make sure everything is continuing to look good. 🩺✨

💅Annnnnnd they both looked so good that we asked for these little modeling moments 📸

🔊 Bexacat is a relatively new FDA-approved, once-daily oral medication that can help control blood sugar in some newly diagnosed diabetic cats. Rather than giving insulin by injection, Bexacat works by helping the kidneys remove excess glucose from the bloodstream through the urine. That means diabetes management may be as simple as one flavored tablet a day! 💊

And Arcadia wants you to know that she is pretty happy with this arrangement — especially when her follow-up visits come with cuddles from Mom. 🥰

🐾 If your cat has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, ask us about the different treatment options available and whether an oral medication may be appropriate for them.

We love our friends at the Niagara SPCA 💙

We love our friends at the Niagara SPCA 💙

🐾💚 Working together for the animals. 💚🐾

We want to send a very sincere thank you to our friends at Green Acres Veterinary Center and Wheatfield Animal Hospital who continue to actively look for ways they can support the Niagara SPCA and the animals in our care.

Most recently, their teams stepped in to help with dogs from our Somerset 24 case, providing 9 dental surgeries — some requiring significant extractions — as well as 7 spay/neuter surgeries. 🦷🩺🐶

Their help couldn't have come at a better time. Summer brings some of our highest intake numbers of the year, our shelter population climbs considerably, and our surgical schedule stays packed. Having community veterinary partners willing to step in and take on some of that care makes a very real difference for both our team and, most importantly, the animals.

We're incredibly appreciative of their continued support and their willingness to ask, "How can we help?" When shelters and veterinary professionals work together, we're able to do more for the animals who depend on all of us. 💚

A huge thank you to the teams at Green Acres Animal Hospital and Wheatfield Small Animal Hospital for everything they've done to help us provide the best possible care for our animals. 🐾👏

🌶️ 🩹 Say hi to Spicy... who, ironically, is one of the sweetest patients!💙

Spicy recently had surgery to repair a tendon and has been coming in for regular bandage changes while he heals. 🩺

While she was here, our team decided his bandage needed a little more... ✨ spice ✨

Don't worry—it may look hot, but it's just a fun way to brighten his recovery (and ours).

Keep healing, Spicy! We're all rooting for you. 🐾💙
