I've been laughed at and mocked over my insistence that dogs riding in my car be safely restrained - in a secure crate or in a harness and seatbelt attachment.

Today, my friend Leo and I were reminded why. A big 'ole Texas truck veered into our lane. I SLAMMED on the brakes, laid on the horn with one hand and steered with the other as safely as I could to the edge of the curb. If I steered too steeply, we'd flip over. If I didn't brake hard and honk, we'd have been plowed into.

Thankfully, Leo was, as always, wearing a harness and securely attached to a seat belt strap. He was thrown forward and caught by his safety equipment with no injuries. My heart probably suffered a little damage from the panic, and my hand is bruised from how hard I slammed the horn. Importantly, we live to play another day.

Despite doing zero formal training, Evie has learned quite a bit in her first 24 hours as our resident foster dog.

1. How to navigate up and down the stairs.
2. Misty will absolutely cuddle you on the floor, but she will also cuddle you on the SOFA!
3. Meals are regular and generous.

Friends, please welcome Evie to the family, at least temporarily. This 10-month-old girl was rescued by , and we'll be fostering her!!!!

The first 3 days she's here we'll be focusing exclusively on allowing her to learn that she's safe. We want her to know she'll never be hungry or thirsty again. She'll never have fleas or ticks again. She'll be treated with gentleness and kindness from now on.

We can't wait to share her journey with you!

River is kind of a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, so maybe his name is perfect for him. Well, until there's a cat in his yard, then he's more like a torpedo. Don't worry, no cats are harmed. His mom decided we needed to install a guidance system to call him off when needed, so we spent a recent afternoon learning a 🚀 recall. Well done, River!
