Cranberry Country HRC held its third annual waterfowl hunt test at Bally’s Gun Dogs in Tomah Wisconsin on Saturday July 10 and Sunday July 11. Originally planning on two flights of Finished it was necessary to reduce the hunt test to one flight of Finished due to lower-than-expected entries. This format turned out to be ideal for handling all the moving parts of the weekend and most likely will be continued. There were twenty-five walk ups which helped decidedly in filling those stakes.

The weather fully cooperated with moderate temperatures, light winds and partially cloudy skies making for some great dog work. The grounds were near perfect with corn row patches to obstruct the view of other things happening on the cranberry bogs and the naturalized tech pond was a big hit with both the Finished and the Seasoned tests that rotated through the weekend.

Many thanks to the Tomah FFA and Vernon County Dairy Council for providing us bird technicians. Both organizations used their pay to attend the state fair in Wisconsin which helped kids do what they love to do showing their farm animals.
A shout out to Muddy Waters HRC that continues to support our club by loaning needed equipment and entering our hunt tests.
Their members did quite well while earning qualifying ribbons at every stake. The camaraderie in HRC is exceptional!

The Saturday night banquet held at the Tomah Warrens Sportsman’s Alliance was a smashing success with close to fifty people in attendance. The food was spectacular with smoked brisket, pulled pork, slow baked ham, yeast rolls, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, BBQ beans and cheddar pea salad, followed up with a decorated sheet cake. Everybody got their fill and then some. Raffle prizes included the Garmin eCollar, G5 Zinger Winger and Dogtra Electronics plus loads of training gear and a bottle or two of spirits as well in the drawings.

The goal is always to cover your expenses and making a profit is a definite bonus to larder the club coffers. That was the outcome!
