🚨 Labor Day Weekend Emergency Care Update 🚨

As we head into Labor Day weekend, we want to make everyone aware of an important update to our emergency services.

From Friday, 9/4/26, after 5:00 PM through Monday, 9/7/26, at 6:00 AM, we will not have an on-call veterinarian available.

🐾 Small Animal Clients: Our after-hours triage service will still be available, and a certified veterinary technician can help assess your pet's situation and determine whether they may be experiencing an emergency and need to seek emergency care. However, no doctor will be available to speak with you or provide medical advice overnight.

🐴 Large Animal & Small Animal Emergencies: If your animal is experiencing an emergency during this time, emergency care will need to be sought elsewhere. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

After 43 incredible years of caring for animals and the people who love them, it is with both gratitude and bittersweet hearts that we announce the retirement of Dr. Catherine North.

For more than four decades, Dr. North has been a constant presence in our Ashford hospital and throughout the community. She has comforted worried families, celebrated countless happy moments, guided pets through illness with compassion, and dedicated her life to the health and well-being of generations of beloved pets. Her knowledge, surgery skills, and unwavering commitment to veterinary medicine have made her not only an exceptional veterinarian, but a true legend.

To many, Dr. North has been more than a doctor, she has been a trusted friend, a mentor, and a familiar face through every stage of life with their pets. The relationships she has built and the lives she has touched are impossible to measure. Her legacy will continue to be felt within our hospital and throughout the community for years to come.

While we are heartbroken to see her go, we couldn’t be happier for her as she begins this well earned new chapter. Dr. North, thank you for your 43 years of dedication, compassion, wisdom, and service. You have left a permenant mark on Fenton River Veterinary Hospital, our team, and every family and pet who had the privilege of knowing you.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Catherine North on her retirement and wishing her endless joy, good health, and many wonderful adventures ahead. ❤️🐾

It Really Does Take a Village 🦆

Today, one of our clients witnessed something both heartwarming and heartbreaking, a mama duck leading her ducklings safely across the road. Unfortunately, one little duckling didn’t quite make the journey. He slipped through a storm drain grate and found himself trapped deep inside the sewer.

Our client stopped by the hospital to see if there was anything we could do to help. Without hesitation, our team gathered towels, a rabies pole, and even fashioned a makeshift net before heading to the nearest storm drain.

When we arrived, the tiny duckling was still there waiting, but by then mama duck and the rest of the family had moved on. We tried everything we could think of to gently corral him into our net, but the little guy had other plans.

Just as we were preparing to call for additional help, the Fire Marshal happened to stop by and ask what was going on. After hearing the situation, he immediately sprang into action and called for another truck to assist.

Thanks to the quick thinking and incredible teamwork of the Ashford Volunteer Fire Dept, we were able to safely rescue the duckling and get him transported to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for the care he needs.

Stories like this remind us that helping animals isn’t something one person, or even one organization, can do alone. It takes compassionate clients, dedicated veterinary teams, first responders willing to lend a hand, and wildlife professionals working together.

When we say it takes a village, we truly mean it. ❤️

A huge thank you to our client for caring enough to stop, to the Ashford Fire Department for their rapid response, and to everyone who played a part in helping this little duckling get a second chance.

This week, we celebrate our incredible reception team 💙

To our receptionists: you are the first smile our clients see and the calming voice they hear in moments of stress, worry, and sometimes heartbreak. You juggle ringing phones, busy schedules, emotional conversations, and endless questions, all while showing compassion, patience, and grace.

You are the bridge between our clients and medical team, the organizers behind the scenes, and the steady presence that keeps everything running smoothly. Your kindness does not go unnoticed, and your impact reaches far beyond the front desk.

Thank you for the warmth you bring, the empathy you show, and the dedication you give every single day to our team, our clients, and the animals we all care so deeply about.

We appreciate you more than words can say. Happy Receptionist Week!
