The Balanced Canine Dog Training Dog training at an affordable cost to anyone in the Toledo and surrounding area. My approach is a positive first, LIMA approved training method.

I strive to offer training plans that work for every dog! Dog training using balanced methods and training plans formed around each individual dog. Private lessons in person or virtually, board and train programs, boarding, daycare, and grooming. Located in West Toledo, serving all surrounding areas to those willing to travel to us. Lessons in clients homes not offered at this time, but public lessons available.

Leash skills for the puppies are coming along quite nicely!!

Ziggy, who I forgot to introduce Saturday, is going home this weekend. His owner's main goals were for him to walk nicely on a leash and learn to ring bells to go out to potty. She also wanted him to be better about going into his crate when told, so stay tuned for his final update this weekend!

Pickles and Hazel are ready to start working on these skills together now, although walking two puppies (or taking them out to go potty) at the same time is not for the novice dog owner! They have just under a week left with me, so we'll see how far we can progress!

Little halfway mark update for the girls!

Pickles and Hazel have learned their obedience in about 2 days (I spent the first SEVERAL days working on being leashed, sitting for pets, and name recognition before we even started sit or down. Tomorrow they will begin learning place! Tomorrow you will also see how their individual leash skills have come along before I start working with them at the same time!

These girls came with one major goal, and that was to improve their distractibility outside so they could focus on going potty and not have accidents in the house. The first couple days were bumpy (mainly for Pickles because she just wants to explore outside) but we are finally on track with A LOT of success and ZERO accidents since Saturday! They will be here for another full week, so stay tuned!!

Do you remember Olive from a few weeks ago??

She has been with her foster for 2 weeks now and she is THRIVING! She has so much space to run, there are dogs in the family that she gets to spend time with occasionally, AND she has some grandkids in the family that get watched by her foster mom a few times a week!!

We feel pretty confident that Olive has found her forever home! Hank's Heroes requires a 30-day foster to adopt contract before adoption to ensure the home is the right fit, and so far it seems this one is!

Prey drive is not just present in herding breeds! Not only do terriers tend to have higher prey drive (because most of them were bred to hunt and KILL rats and other small critters on farms and such) but a lot of bully mixes tend to have some level of prey drive too.

In many rescue dogs, most forms of plat satisfy the level of prey drive they have, but terriers, shepherds of any kind, aussies, border collies, etc. ALL need healthy outlets for prey drive AND.... you guessed it, TRAINING to work on impulse control and turning off prey drive after the need to satisfy has been met.

Updates to scheduling: Effective as of October 1st, 2026

Grooming: no longer booking appointments. Nail appointments can still be made through October 30th and will resume after Thanksgiving.

Boarding: No longer accepting new boarding clients - established clientele only. This is due to time and space, if you need boarding and have not trained with me in any capacity please contact to set up an evaluation and or to begin training.

Board and Train Programs: Booking out 1 month at this time, I am only able to take 1 board and train dog at a time until further notice. If you are wanting to schedule a program, please contact now to book for December!

Private Training: Beginning November 1st, 2026 I will be taking a break from private lessons in my home (except for board and train lessons/follow up lessons) until March 2027. I am still booking public lessons during that time!

All of these changes are simply to allow me to be a mom and wife during the holiday season without taking a break from work altogether. I appreciate all of the support from every one of my clients, and from those who share my posts and content! If you haven't already, please find me on YouTube for upcoming free training content!

Welcome, Hazel (black and tan) and Pickles (tan)!

These cute sisters are here for 2 weeks of training! While they are here, mom's biggest goal is for them to be less distracted by each other and the outside environment. Potty training has been a bit difficult due to their high distractability right now, and it doesn't seem to matter if they are together or separate for potty breaks.

Over the course of their program the focus will be on engagement, potty training, and name recognition (but of course they will learn SO much more!)

I will also work on building Hazel's confidence since she is a little more timid, and Pickles will work on her demand barking!

It's time for the update you have all been waiting for!!

Olly has been back home for a month since his training program and his owners are SO pleased with his progress. And he continues to show progress almost daily toward their goals of him coexisting with their cats!!

This is from early this past week, they're working on him being outside the crate now in the presence of one of their two cats. He has been transitioned to an ecollar to make things a bit easier for everyone, and Olly has really made leaps of progress since adding that tool to the toolbox!

Olly's biggest issue before training was being unable to turn off his prey drive. He would struggle to settle after play, would be on constant alert on walks scanning for squirrels, and he found it impossible to even catch a glance at the cats in the house without losing his mind.

Thank you to those who donated toward Olly's training and a HUGE thank you to Friends Of Lucas County Dogs for putting this into motion to ensure Olly could stay in his home rather that being returned to the shelter!!

Meet Olive!!

Olive is the next candidate for a board and train, courtesy of Friends of Lucas County Dogs!!

Over the next two weeks, Olive is going to get all the socialization she needs to succeed in life. She will also be put on a diet and exercise plan, learn how to have her nails done, and spend some time around kids.

The shelter was initially concerned that Olive might have some issues with other dogs, but Grayson has told me that she in fact is a very dog-social dog. He would not have engaged in play if she wasn't, it's actually a pretty rare occasion for Grayson to play with an adult dog the same day they arrive!!!

Thank you Alyssa Nye for trusting me with this girl and helping her find her new home!!
