Meet the ultimate crime-fighting (and heart-stealing) trio: MJ, Ned, and Peter Parker! 🐾🕷️

These three superhero siblings came to us months ago after being dumped at our doors. After fighting through months of quarantine and medical treatment, they were given a clean bill of health and are officially ready for their forever homes!

The only problem? They are currently being overlooked. Because space at the shelter is tight, this sweet squad is housed in our gray enclosure—which makes it way too easy to walk right past them. But don't let this fool you: their personalities are pure gold!

All three of these kitties are extremely friendly, affectionate, and ready for all of the pets you can offer. They adore other felines and would do amazingly well in a household with existing cat buddies. Despite a rough start in life, they have nothing but love to give!

Come meet MJ, Ned, and Peter Parker today and see if one (or two... or three!) is the missing piece to your family❤️

🐾 SNEAK PEEK TOUR #1
Welcome to the future home of Paws! 🐾

We’ve been waiting to show you what’s happening behind the scenes, and it’s finally time! 💚

Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing a series of sneak peek video tours, from inside our new shelter as the renovation work continues. Our subscribers saw it first and now it's your turn!

For our first stop, we’re taking you through the main entrance, lobby and Main Adoption Center, including our new Free Roaming Rooms and private Adoption Visitation Rooms.

It may still look like a construction zone (it very much is), but we can already picture these spaces filled with cats waiting to meet their families, adopters sitting on a bench getting that first head bump, and so many new beginnings happening within these walls. 💚🐾

We are incredibly fortunate that a very generous donor purchased this building for Paws and is also funding the renovation costs. We simply cannot express how grateful we are for this extraordinary gift and what it will mean for the future of Paws.

But once construction is complete, it’s up to us to turn this building into a working animal shelter.

That means furnishing and equipping the entire facility and because our new shelter will eventually allow us to care for nearly three times the number of cats our current building can accommodate, we aren't simply moving our existing supplies. We need to significantly expand them.

For the area you’re seeing in today’s video, our.. New Building Amazon Wishlist, includes things like:

🐾 Cat-safe benches for our Free Roaming and Visitation Rooms
🐾 Desk chairs for our staff
🐾 Shelving and storage
🐾 Ring security cameras (each room will have a camera so we can keep an eye on all the kitties even when staff isn’t in the building).
🐾 And other items needed to make these spaces functional, safe and ready for cats and adopters

Want to help us build the inside of Paws? 💚

You can purchase an item directly from our New Building Amazon Wishlist linked with this post, or make a monetary contribution toward furnishing and equipping the new shelter.

💚 Donate online: Pawsandwhiskers.org/donate
💚 Venmo:
always look for Paws under the **Charities** section, never a personal account
💚 PayPal:

We’re also including our Cat Care Amazon Wishlist, for anyone who would rather send food, litter, medical supplies or other necessities for the cats currently in our care. While we prepare for the future, our current shelter remains very busy caring for the kitties who need us today.

Whether you purchase a bench, send a case of cat food, make a donation, share our post, or simply cheer us on, you are helping us build the next chapter of Paws and Whiskers.

We have dreamed about having the space to help more cats for a very long time. Seeing it become a reality is incredibly exciting, and we are so grateful to have our supporters along for the journey.
Most areas in this video are still available for Naming Opportunities through our capital funding campaign, for more information on Naming Opportunities please email the Shelter Director, Tawny at [email protected]

This is only Sneak Peek #1… there is MUCH more to show you! Stay tuned throughout the week as we take you into more areas of the future home of Paws and Whiskers Cat Shelter “The Shelter for New Beginnings”

There is a part of animal rescue and of loving a pet that no one likes to talk about: loss.

We wish so much they could stay with us forever.

Their lives may be shorter than ours, but they live them so fully. They love unconditionally (no matter what they might have endured) They bring us joy and companionship. They somehow know when a gentle purr, a warm cuddle, or simply sitting beside us is exactly what we need. They greet us after a long day with happy tails, prancing paws, and their own special way of saying, “I’m so glad you’re here.” Even in shelter they show us extraordinary love.

And because they give us so much during their lives, we believe they deserve that same love, compassion, and dignity at the end of their lives…and after.

Loss is a reality in animal shelters, too, although it is one of the hardest parts of our work to talk about and go through.

At Paws, we try incredibly hard to save every kitty who comes through our doors. We celebrate the recoveries, the adoptions, the second chances and the happy endings. Thankfully, those are the overwhelming majority of our stories.

But not every story ends the way we desperately hope it will.

Sometimes it is the tiny kitten our staff fought to save. Sometimes it is a critically ill or injured cat whose body simply could not overcome everything it had been through. Sometimes it is one of our beloved seniors who spent their final chapter being loved in a home through our Senior to Senior Program. Along the way, our staff and fosters form bonds with these cats and often with the wonderful people caring for them.

We feel those losses, too…deeply.

We can provide medical treatment. We can fight for them. We can hold them, advocate for them, comfort them and love them. But sometimes, despite everything, we cannot save them. This weighs on us.

What we ..can..do is make sure that the compassion we showed them during their lives does not end when their life does.

That is why we are grateful to share that Paws and Whiskers Cat Shelter has officially partnered with Green Pastures Pet Cremation for the aftercare of our Paws kitties when loss happens.

Green Pastures provides Aquamation® a different kind of aftercare, one with the gentleness, dignity and respect we believe every animal deserves. Knowing that a kitty who leaves our care for the final time will continue to be handled with kindness and love brings a little comfort during an otherwise very difficult moment.

Green Pastures has generously chosen to donate these services for our Paws kitties. That kindness means the funds we would otherwise spend on aftercare can remain where they are needed most to continue to save by providing food, medicine, treatment and care for the cats and kittens still depending on us.

We sincerely thank Green Pastures for understanding that caring for animals means caring for them through ..every stage of their journey. 💚🐾

And for those in our community who will someday face the heartbreaking loss of their own beloved pet, we wanted you to know about the compassionate people we have chosen to trust with ours.
Because when goodbye becomes unavoidable, they still deserve to be treated with dignity.
They still deserve tenderness.
And most of all, they are still loved.🐾

We often get asked who we recommend when the time comes, which lead us to sharing this with all of you.

Home Update! 🏡🐾💚

“A few months ago we lost our 14 year old sweet boy Gavin to cancer. We were heart broken, and still are. We decided that our home was too quiet, and we needed another baby to love. We have never had a cat, but we are so happy we took a chance and decided to adopt from Paws and Whiskers. Sunny has fit right in. She is so sweet, and brings us so much joy. Thank you so much for all you do to save these sweet souls. “

We are so happy Sunny’s parents decided to open their hearts and home again to an another fur baby, and take the chance on Sunny their first kitty! We know how very difficult pet loss is, we truly love when people decide to love another, because of that Sunny is getting to live her very best life and maybe offer a little healing to the broken hearts loss leaves behind.
Thank you for choosing adoption 💚🐾

A Difficult Update From Paws & Whiskers 😥

We know there are people in our community desperately trying to find help for cats and kittens. We know how frustrating and heartbreaking it can be to hear that shelters are full when you are trying to do the right thing for an animal.

We wish we could say yes every single time, sadly we can’t, that’s not reality.

Saying “we are full” truly means there is physically nowhere left to safely put another cat.

Since May, we have been operating at or near maximum capacity almost continuously. Our intake cages have remained consistently full. As soon as one becomes available, there is already a scheduled surrender waiting to fill that space.

Then, very early Saturday morning, **12 cats and kittens of various ages and sizes were left outside our shelter, all crammed into a single carrier, no food, no water, waiting for hours piled on top of each other.. just waiting to be found.

Among them were two nursing mothers one with a skin infection. Eight suffering from upper respiratory infections. Two with severe eye infections, and one who had to be rushed for emergency veterinary treatment and will require surgery to remove an eye.

These 12 cats “the dozen” didn't arrive because we suddenly had 12 spaces available….**We had none.**

Our staff had to immediately rearrange our intake and medical areas, moving cats and placing two, three and even four together in spaces intended for fewer cats just to find somewhere safe for everyone. That is what overcrowding looks like.
It isn't fair to the cats already here or these ones who were left abandoned.

Right now, more than half of the cats in our intake area are medical cases. They must remain there while receiving treatment until they are healthy enough to move forward toward adoption. Others are awaiting their spay or neuter surgeries.

This is the part of sheltering that most people never see.

A “full shelter” isn't simply a number. It means every appropriate enclosure is occupied. It means medications, treatments, cleaning, feeding, surgeries and monitoring for dozens upon dozens upon dozens of individual cats. It means protecting healthy cats from contagious illnesses. It means making sure overcrowding doesn't compromise the welfare of the cats already depending on us.

**Because of our current circumstances, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to completely close our intake/surrender department to both owned and stray cats until further notice.**

We don't make this decision lightly.
Remaining a no-kill shelter means we must have the appropriate space, staffing and resources to safely and humanely care for every cat we accept. Continuing to take cats when there is nowhere appropriate to house them would not be responsible sheltering.

This is also one of the many reasons we are working so incredibly hard to complete our new future building. **Space means opportunity.** More appropriate housing. Better separation of medical cases. And, ultimately, the ability to help more cats who need us.

The photos we're sharing are just a few of the cats currently occupying our intake and medical areas. We want our community to see what “full” actually looks like behind the scenes, and this is just a glimpse.

❗️ **Please, please understand: dumping animals is NOT the answer even when they are left at an animal shelter.**

❗️Leaving cats outside does not create space inside.

It forces an unplanned intake into an already full facility and can lead to overcrowding, increased stress, the spread of illness, depletion of medical and financial resources, and ultimately the temporary closure of intake meaning fewer cats throughout the community can receive help, even the ones who went through the process and did everything right to obtain an intake appointment (which we had to cancel).

We understand that people can feel desperate. We understand that finding placement can be incredibly difficult when shelters everywhere are struggling with capacity.
But abandoning animals outside a closed or full shelter puts those animals at risk and places every animal already inside at risk as well.

We want to help. We want to save them. That is why we're here.
But to continue being here for cats tomorrow, next week and for years to come, we have to protect our ability to properly care for the cats already entrusted to us today.

To everyone who adopts, fosters, donates, shares our posts, supports our new future (larger) shelter, and continues standing behind our staff and these cats … thank you!! 💚🐾

We cannot do this without you.
