That being said, it is work that we are happy and proud to do, and that we do without complaint.🫡

Every clean litterbox, every bowl scrubbed, and every mountain of laundry washed and folded is one more way we show them they matter. . .

💗 LONG-STAY DOG SPOTLIGHT: AMELIA 💗

𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙖-𝙒𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙅𝙪𝙣𝙚 13𝙩𝙝. And honestly? We're starting to wonder how this girl is still here. 🥹

Amelia came to us after her previous owner became ill and could no longer care for her. She's a sweet, fun-loving, energetic girl who is always ready for her next adventure!

🌊 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗹? Amelia's in.
🫧 𝗕𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀? Amelia's OBSESSED.

Amelia also loves learning and enjoys training! She already knows a couple of fun tricks and would probably LOVE a family who wants to keep teaching her new things. 🧠🐾

According to her previous owner, Amelia did well with both big and small dogs. When it comes to cats, Amelia is very interested in them, so we're unsure about her going to a home with cats. 🐱👀

𝗧𝗔𝗥 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗽: Ever adopted an animal who seemed completely different once they got home? There's a reason! 🐾

C***r's previous owner described him as being sweet, cuddly, gentle, and affectionate. While you may watch this video and think we've been lied to, there is a much better explanation. 🤔

𝙎𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨. New sounds, smells, people, animals, routines, and unfamiliar surroundings can all affect how an animal behaves. Some animals shut down. Some lash out (Like our newest friend C***r here). Others become extra energetic or vocal. Some hide. 𝗡𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. ❌📖

Once they're in a quiet, comfortable home and have had time to decompress, you may start seeing a completely different side of their personality. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘸 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘴!). Give them a safe space, establish a routine, and let them adjust at their own pace.🥰

Our Story Starts in 1921.
6 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨.

𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 the kennels.
𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 the adoption rooms.
𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 the staff and volunteers.
𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 the thousands of animals who would one day pass through our doors…

There was a woman named Mrs. Ben Johnson, a small collie, and a cold, stormy night.

In 1921, Mrs. Johnson was on her way to the opera with her husband when they came across a little collie huddled in a doorway. 🐕

The dog was undernourished, frightened, and shivering in the cold.⛈️🥶

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥. 🛑

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵.

Mrs. Johnson wrapped the little dog in her coat and took her home. 🥰

Before long, Mrs. Johnson and her friends began to see a greater need in our community: a safe place for stray dogs to stay until they could find loving homes.
