Ever wonder what it takes to dry a Newfoundland? 👀

Newfoundlands have incredibly dense double coats, and getting all that coat properly dried takes time.

During the drying process, a high-velocity dryer helps move water out of the coat while separating the hair and loosening undercoat that’s ready to shed. Afterward, we can continue working through the coat with brushing and finishing work.

And with a Newfoundland, there is usually a lot of coat to work through. 😂🐾

It’s one of the reasons a professional groom for a giant, double-coated breed is much more involved than simply giving them a bath.

Lots of coat. Lots of drying. Lots of fluff—and one very fresh Newfie at the end. ❤️

Every dog you see here is different-and that's one of our favorite things about what we do.

Doodle coats can require quite a bit of maintenance, which is why consistent professional grooming and at-home brushing are so important. Regular appointments help us keep the coat manageable, comfortable, and styled to fit each individual dog.

Professional grooming happens in stages. As we work through the coat, different areas may be clipped, shaped, blended, and refined at different times. That means there can definitely be an awkward in-between stage before everything comes together. 😂

Right now, the haircut is still a work in progress. The final shaping, blending, detailing, and finishing touches are still to come.

We usually show you the polished “after,” but sometimes it’s fun to show what happens behind the scenes, too.

A beautiful finished groom doesn’t happen all at once. ❤️✂️

A poodle puppy’s first groom is about SO much more than a haircut. 🐩❤️

Poodles require regular grooming throughout their lives, which means introducing puppies to the process early can make a huge difference.

During those first appointments, they’re learning what it feels like to stand on a grooming table, hear clippers, experience a bath and dryer, have their paws handled, and stay still while someone works around their face.

That’s a lot for a puppy!

So we don’t expect perfection. We focus on introducing the process, building trust, rewarding good behavior, and creating positive experiences they can build on at future appointments.

Each visit gives them another opportunity to learn:

“I’ve done this before. I’m okay here.” 🥹

“But cats groom themselves… why would they need a groomer?” 🐱

It’s one of our favorite questions to answer!

Cats are excellent self-groomers, but that doesn’t mean every cat can maintain their coat completely on their own throughout their entire life.

Long or dense coats can tangle. Loose undercoat can build up. Older cats may become less flexible. And once matting develops, trying to repeatedly brush or comb it out may be uncomfortable for the cat.

Sometimes a shorter haircut is simply the most practical and comfortable way to give the coat a fresh start. ❤️

But cat grooming isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some cats need a haircut, while others may only benefit from a bath, brush-out, de-shedding, nail trim, or occasional professional coat maintenance.

Our job is to look at the cat in front of us and determine an approach that prioritizes their individual needs and comfort.

Because the goal of cat grooming isn’t just a beautiful coat.

It’s a comfortable cat underneath it. 🐾
